It is planned to erect two bungalows on this land and to build an overhead bridge to Casino Island, where ten- nis courts will be laid out and a fire- proof moving picture theatre with seating capacity of 500 erected. Governor Byron Dawson, of the Middlesex County jail, was the means of saving Sidney Murrell and Jack (Slim) Williams from serious injury at the assizes, says the London Free Press, when Murrell and Willlams were formally placed on trial for their lives. Murrell slipped on the narrow stairway as the prisoners were being led back to their cell be- low, and he fell heavily forward, dragging Williams, to whom he was handcuffed, and chained, after him. Governor Dawson was in the lead, and the combined weight of the men fell upon him. Though taken by surprise, the jail governor was equal to the unexpected task of supporting the two men until they regained their equilibrium. The remainder of the trip to the cells was made without further mishap. 'The accident happeped just after |' Murrell had waved a good-bye part- ing to his mother, who was one of the most interested spectators throughout the afternoon. Investing for the Family. Abraham Lincoln humorously said of a poor neighbor's assets, "He has a wife and two children, which I should think were worth thirty thou- sand doMars to any man," The family is the greatest wealth of every member of it--the first con- cern of the individual or of society. It is a golden Investment and needs the same protection and care that any investment requires. One of its best safeguards is good reading; one of the things that puts it in jeopardy is bad reading. The Youth's Companian has always been, in the matter of supplying good reading, what a United States bond is to the investor. Its principle is guaranteed, and its interest is paid with every issue. Try this invest- ment for your family. The 52 issues of 1924 will be crowded with serial stories, short stories, editorials, poetry, facts and fun. Subscribe now and receive: 1.
