The death is announced of Mrs. Mary Parker Cox, at the home of her son, Ray L. Parker, at Miami, Fla., on Dec. 14th. Mrs. Cox was born in Clayton, N.Y. Two sons survive, also one sister, Mrs. Henry Grant, Clayton, N.Y. Mrs. Cox had spent her summers at the Parker summer home on the St. Lawrence, Open a New Store. James McFarlane, who has ecar- ried on a successful insurance busi- ness at Carleton Place for several years has disposed of his business and has formed a partnership with W. H. Matthews and the new part- nership will open a furniture and undertaking store in Perth. Mr. Mc- Farlane will have charge of the Perth store. -------- Won't Put On Collars. in Gananoque there are many dogs running at large without tags. The owners have paid the license fee but refuse to put collars and tags on dogs, claiming that it ie a needless expense, as collars come off or are stolen. Masonic' Temple Inspected. The Masonic Temple was thrown open to visitors on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., and there was a continu- ous throng of people, all of whom were greatly impressed by the beauty of the building and the furniture and symbols that distinguished the anc- lent craft. Mrs. A. W. Richardson gave an organ recital in the audi- torium from 2 to 4 o'clock and R. R. F. Harvey from 4 to 5. This superb Masonic edifice has already been minutely described in the columns of the British Whig. It is complete in every detail for social functions as well as for the carry- ing out of purely Masonic rites. Beecham Trotter and Sons suffered a serious fire loss at Brandon, on December 12th, when one of Bran- don's oldest landmarks, Beecham | Picnte Ham, Ib. ....... Trotter and 'Sona horse exchange on Sixth street, was destroyed by fire, It is believed the fire originat- ed in the hay chute. A high wind prevailed at the time and hindered the work of the fire department. Animals and vehicles were got out of the building without loss or in- Jury, but considerable expensive English harness, robes, blankets and miscellaneous articles were destroy- ed. The total loss is placed at $12, 000, which is only partly covered by insurance. Mr. Trotter formerly lived in Pittsburgh township, and is well known in the Kingston district.
