The Salvation Army band was out on Christmas Day serenading the citizens, playing Christmas carols. The band played well, and citizens were quite liberal in their offering for the work of the army. Awarded a Prize. Byron Fillingham, Wellington, won the $5 prize offered to the pupil in the school faking the highest marks for the past year. The Wo- men's Institute was the donor. It will repeat the prise for 1924. Leaving For China. Nir. and Mrs. D. F. Warren, form- er residents of Lansdowne, were there bidding good-bye to their many friends before leaving or Hong Kong, 'China, where Mr. Warren has been appointed as a Canadien immigra- tion representative. Made Trip in Auto. Owing to the poor sleighing, Santa Claus made his trip this year in an automobile. Some of the Kingston yoingsters state that they heard San- ta driving around the streets. Some of the children were up as early as 8 o'clock to see what Old' Kris Kringle had left for them. There was very.little sleep for the young- sters on that night of all nights. Appointed Postmaster, Lieut. W. Sterling MacLean has been appointed postmaster at Max. ville in succession to Charles Mc- Naughton who resigned some months ago owing to ill health! Lieut. Mac- Lean is a son-of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh MacLean, Maxville, and served overseas in the great war with both the Canadian and Imperial armies in the Air Force. Mr. MoNaughton held the office for a quarter of a century. Died in Commecticut, The funeral of John Palen Hudgin ton Ont. a little more than three years ago and jn that short time made many friends in the church and community. Mr. Hudgin was soventy-nine years of age and leaves his wife and one daughter, Gena H. Osborne, Ruby Wedding. On Dec. 6th the home of Mr. and Mre. John Henderson, Lime Lake, was the scene of a pleasant event, the fortieth anniversary of their wedding. The day was spent in playing games and so- cial intercourse. Levi Williams has resigned the office of clerk of the township of North . Marysburgh, and Herbert Whattam has been appointed to the position. Mr. Williams has for many years been clerk and counsellor for the council of the township of North Marysburgh, and no municipality in the county is more wisely or econo- mically governed. He continued as clerk long after he had disposed of his property interests in his native township and is now relieved of the duties of the office at his own re. quest, - To Soon Be Operating. The milk concern in Gananoque is to soon begin operations. Bonds of the company have been sold in BEng- land and contracts made for a lange quaatity of the powdered milk. Cem- ent blocks, similar to the ones used in the preseat building, are being procured from Montreal, in order 0 make "frecessary additions to the] building. The company had endeav- ored to procure the blocks locally, but the molds here were of a differ ent size. It is expected that in. a short time the work will be pro- ceeded with, amd before many months the company will be in a position to start taking in milk.
