The councils in various cities in Ontario will meke an effort to have the present Suburban Road Act re- pealed, claiming that it imposes a burden on the municipalities and leaves the council without any pow- er to control expenditures for sub- urban roads. The Ontario Minister of Highways will be interviewed re- garding the matter, = Lived Long in Pembroke, Thomas Clarke, Pembroke, died on Sunday, aged ninety-one years. In 1866 he located in Pembroke and carried on a dry goods business. In 1896 he was made- collector of in- land revenue there holding office up to 1916 when he retired. Those who knew them could not but admire the way they travelled from Moscow to the meetings at Thirteen Island Lake and Echo Lake for about thirty years, over terribly rough roads. They travelled forty or fifty miles each week-end and conducted reli- glous metings. Since the death of Mary Letty, Mr. Gowdy was not quite the same in health, although he continued to visit the meetings. He attended Friends' Quarterly Meeting in Wellington two momths ago. He died at the home of his erpool, Feb. 15th, Metagama, from St. John, arrived Liverpool, Feb. 11th; Marburn, from Liverpool, due St. John, Feb. 18th.
