Clifford Alyea, son of Dr. and Mrs. Alyea, Colborne, was removed to his home in Colborne a few days ago from Belleville hospital. He was with a chum, Melbourne Hodges, who was killed when the C.N.R. "Capitol City" crashed into the truck in which they were riding and Hod- ges was instantly killed. Alyea has since been in hospital. To Test the Law. D. J. Public Man "In Wrong." Rev. W. G. Bradford, Ashton, last week, wrote the Carleton Place Cen- tral Canadian to correct # statement made at Carleton Place recently by T. A. Thompson, M.P.P., that the Methodist church in Ashton had only two members and should close its doors. Mr. Bradford says the Meth- odist church inp Ashton ministers to twelve families and has fourteen members and pald for all purposes last year over $500 to the various funds of the church, Bedford Township Man Dead. Wt the age of fifty-six years, John Macallister, a well-known and highly respected resident of Bedford town- ship passed away at Brockville hos- pital. His death caused a widespread sorrow amongst bis numerous friends. Although deceased had been 411 for two years, he was able to be about his duties until a week before his death. Walmsley & Walms- ley are the solicitors. Samuel Me- Cullough is constable at a salary of $100. H. D, Cleminson is a mem- ber of the Board of Health. Ice Plles Seven Feet. A spectacular ice jam has form- ed along the south shore of the St. Lawrence river east of Point Airy, and about 100 feet off the Ameri- can shore. The ice is plied up to a height of seven feet in some places and views of the Canadian shore and Chimney Island are cut off. The jam was caused by large floes sweep- ing around Point Airy, and belng carried by the current against the shore ice. The jam does not threa- ten to result in any damage at present. Are Anxious for a Nurse. The Separate school board at TI'embroke is anxious to have a school nurse. There is not sufficient in the separate schools for a nurse but if she took charge of that work in the convent also she would have enough employment. The board could not see its way clear to finance the en- tire $100 monthly necessary for her salary, and appointed a committee to 'interview the Catholic Women's Lea- gue and other socleties with a view to discovering how mue¢h, if any, fin- ancial support might be expected from them for this purpose. -- Died in Nevada. At Ely, Nevada, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Hickey, there passed away suddenly, John Bennett, Prescott.
