Drought on the Pacific. Coast, the schedules of heavy - production - agility" expedites CANADA'S AUTO NUMBER INCORRECTLY REPORTED One error frequently leads to a flock of 'em. Consider the case of the motor registrations of the Do- minion. A gentleman in Winnipeg #had a pipe dream---or estimated--- that there were 642,571 motor cars and trucks registered in Canada on December 31st, 1923, Now, to anyone acquainted with the 1922 registrations, domestic pro- duction, exports, imports and re- tirements, that figure: was ridicul- ously high. It simply meant that tens of thousands of motor vehicles were smuggled in the country last yéar --or fabricated out of thin air. In- deed, as an estimate the figure was an exceedingly punk guess--so punk that its fatuosity seems manifestly obvious and would be ludicrous had it not been-accepted and broadcast- ed as-fact by those who knew bet- ter had they paused to consider for a moment. "Automotive Tudustries" (New York) published the figure in the statigtica number of that excellent publication. Then Canadian Automo- tive Trade" followed suit basing on it, also, an interesting article on the motorization of the Dominion and the accruing advantages. Re- prints of this article were sent to the newspapers of the Dominion and with and without credit it was re- produced in part or whole by many of the papers that had not reprinted the figures or world motor map or The Gold Staridard of Values IGHTEEN years of wonder- ful accomplishment are truly reflected in the models which maintain Reo as "The Gold Standard of Values," --two modishly designed closed cars,--a 4-passenger Coupe and a S-passenger Sedan, --two open cars,--a smartly appear- x and a generously proportioned tour ing car. The re- quest was complied with promptly for we had to hand the figures re- leased by the Automotive Industries of Canada, the association of the automotive manufacturers of the Dominion, which - were compiled from actual registrations by prov- inces and were first published by The Toronto Sunday World and Ca- n-dian Motorist. The error might shave been dis- missed "with the passing tribute of a smile had it not been such a gross exaggeration. Unfortunately it ex- ceeds the actual registration figure by more than the anticipated gain in registration for the current year. In other words it, the alleged regis- tration figure for 1923, exceeds what, in all probability will be the registration figure for 1924 by a considerable margin. Thus, with it as a basis, there will be an apparent recession In the motorization of the Dominion dur- fog the current year. This is un- fortunate and it is to be hoped that Hke "Autoftotive Industries" the other: publications that have helped to broadcast the erroneous figures will correct fit. " There were registered in the prov- incess of the Dominion of Canad last year a total of 566,486 cars ana trucks or 67,464 more than in 1922, or 76,085 fewer than the erroneous figure. HEALTHY GROWTH. Industry In 3 Ford, Ont., April 17.--An indica- tion of the healthy growth of Cana- dian industry during the first three months of 1924 is contained in the fact that forty-three per cent. of the entire production of the plant of the Ford Motor Company has been shipped to British Overseas Dominions when coupled with figur- es concerning shipments of cars throughout the Dominion of Can- ada. This makes a truly remark- able showing. There were produced 9,149 cars and trucks in the month of March, 1924, and for the first three-month period just ended, a total of 24,049 This compared with a similar period in 1923 shows an increase of sixteen per cent. in '| the total business done to date this year: Another interesting feature is the tremendous growth in the closed car business. This branch of the Ford Company's activity approx- imating 50 per cent. of its Canadian sales. XT In addition to the huge plant at Ford, and the three assembly plants located at Montreal, Toromto and Winnipeg, there has recently been opened an assembly branch at Port Elisabeth, South Africa, where about 300 cars per month will be turned out. 2 2 i EB 5 No delay concerning the death of a4 man is ever long. since the old finger began to feel| He that lies down with hogs win | 1 get up with fleas. : THE MONARCH BATTERY Zbyszko, at 50, is still able to give a splendid exhibition on the" mats.
