"Sailor Joe, the most tattoed man cn exhibition" will be better known to his many Kingston friends by the name of George Simmons. Mr. Sim- mons left Kingston about a year ago ard is now in Bloomington, Illinois, with the Essay Fay's Famous Eu- ropean Circus Sideshow as its * tooed man, one of the tem living freaks. He has written a very in- teresting letter to the Whig describ- ing his show and sending greetings to his local acquaintances, His company goes next to California to play fairs, and at present he has little hope of seeing Kingston for a long time, In Chicago he saw two Kingston old boys, Edward Ryan and Wil- liam Ryan, who are now managing the Automatic Electric works there. His letter closes with: "I remain a subscriber of your paper forever." Calgary Provision Prices. Capt. F. A. Reid, of the Kingston fire department this morning re- ceived a letter from a friend in Cal- gary which contained an interesting list of Calgary prices. Some of the quotations are: Veal 12 1-2 a pound; young pork roast, 12c a pound; sugar, ten pounds for $1.05; round steak, two pounds for 35¢; sirloin steak, 22¢ a pound; spring lamb-- hinds, 28c, fromts 15¢; bread, two loaves for 15¢; eggs, 20c to 25¢ a dozen; butter 30c a pound. One merchant on the City Hall market advertises sirloin steak at 15c, round steak at three pounds for 25c and hamburg steak at three pounds for 35c; veal chops at 15¢ and pork for roasting at llc. Jumped His Board Bill Brought Before Magistrate When arraigned in the police court on Friday morning, Thomas Hart had two charges to face, vag- rancy and neglecting to pay his board bill. He was found guilty on both charges and remanded a week for sentence.. It is alleged that Hart refused to pay a board bill amount- ing to $32. | Poisoning From His Teeth. Angus Yeatman, aged fifty-nine years, passed away Tuesday night at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, N.Y. Mr. Yeatman had been ill about a week with poison- ing from his teeth and had been confined to the hospital since last! Friday. Mr. Yeatman was born in Battersea, Ont., April 9th 1865. John Banks, Battersea, Ont; and Mrs. Ada Mitchell, Kingston, Ont., stepbrother and stepsister survive. The last horse car left the streets of New York in 1917.
