Robbins, Clayton, N.Y. died Monday evening at his home in | Fishers' Landing, N.Y. after an {ll- ness of two montis, death being | caused by heart disease. Capt. | Robbins was born on Picton Island | and always made his home on the St. Lawrence. He was married in Clayton fifty-six years ago to Miss | Catherine Eggleston. Eight Days to Kingston : The trip from Montreal to King- ston, in 1822 of pioneers, a distance of about one hundred and ninety- eight miles, was made in flat-bot- tomed open boats, and occupied eight days, during which the passen- gers were exposed to the hot sun by day, the dew by night, coarse food, and no means of cooking proper food, not by any means the least, the course language of the boatmen who, when opportunity rose, imbib- ed freely, and were not pleasant travelling companions. During the trip the party slept in various places on shore, principally in the homes of settlers, and upon one occasion, in a barn. At the family residence, Wright's Corners, near Athens, the death oc- curred on Monday evening, after a | long illiness, of Ermina Wiltse, wife of James Sheldon, and a very highly respected resident of the community. The late Mrs. Sheldon was born in { Athens, seventy years ago, the daughter of the late Levi Wiltse, and of Mrs. Wilson Reilly, who still re- sides in Athens, at an excess age of ninety years. Her marriage took place fifty years ago and she had been practically a lifelong resilent of Athens and its vicinity, where she possessed a great many friends. She was a member of the Athens Methodist church. Lumberman Is Dead. John Clarke, Pembroke, died this week following a paralytic stroke. He had been ill for three years. He was sixty-two years of age and spent years in lumbering and farming. Thirty-two years ago he removed to Pembroke. He was an Anglican, a Mason and a Forester.
