McEwen Cele- | brates Eightieth ) : Birthday. The Whig offers congratulations to Mr. John F. McEwen, of 202 King street, who celebrates his eightieth birthday to-day and joins the ranks of Kingston's octogenarians. Mr. McEwen has been in Kingston since he was eight years of age and has seen many changes take place. With his father he worked at the King- ston Foundry for many years and he also served a long period of time as a marine engineer, sailing on the Plerrepont, the Alexandria, the Hero and other passenger steamers of by- gone days. For many years he con- ducted a machine shop on Princess street and can name many promin- ent citizens who worked there or frequented the shop on business. Mr. McEwen is a brother-in-law of John McKelvey, Sr., who is mow eighty-six years of age. { CITY HALL This morning the case of a way- ward boy was brought up in the Po- lice Court. The lad iz question seems just about incor le. His mother is dead and his f. per has not been able to look after him. He has been a ward of the Children's Aid Society but has proved unmanageable and the necessary steps are being taken to have him placed in a reform school.
