THE DAILY BRITISH WHIG FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1034. QUEEN'S CONCERTS. A violinist of international repute [®] {and an extremely good vocalist per- | formed here last night in an empty {hall that echoed like a vault. The Art and Lecture Committee "of | Queen's wotid have good reason for throwing up the sponge after the re- peated knockouts to which their of- ferings have been subjected. The concert was fairly advertised and the 'only counter-attractions were a mournful comedlan and a tribe of aborigines. Tho did so for the ome reason that they were not interested. That is the situation in a nut-shell--excellent concerts and an indifferent public. That indifferent and partly ignor- ant public is as much the Art Com- mittee's opportunity as its bane. It can yet be won, To throw any more . concerts at it in the present take-it-or-leave-it fashion is plainly a waste of good money. Under the circumstances the Kingston public can be counted on to leave it. But by some medns, by patient effort, much thought and not a little prayer and fasting, the committee can lay hold of and educate a concert-going public in Kingston, These concerts drew excellent audiences four or five years ago. Without doubt similar co-operation between committee and people could be restored. Meanwhile .it is earnestly to be hoped that when the Hart House Quartette, which turns away crowds every week in Toronto, comes here shortly, the many musi¢ lovers who were most inadequately represented last night will turn out in force to do them and this city justice, ST.
