Mrs. F. M. Purvis, Mallorytown, writing to the Christian Guardian renewing her subscription, says: "My late husband's father, (G. G. Purvis) was born in Toronto, 1799, and becoming a class leader in the church here, when a young man, was, I presume, one of your earliest subscribers. The old stone farm- house which he built, and in which the Ryerson brothers have all slept, is still standing here, and is occu- pled by the third and fourth genera- tion of the family, and is often visit- ed by the fifth generation." A Dearth of Men. The Toronto Telegram says: "In a recent speech at a meeting in St. John's church in Toronto an "anti" speaker declared that Knox, Queen's and Montreal theological colleges would be "anti" colleges. If sich a thing happened there would not be enough Anti-Union ministers who ever took first-class honors in their university courses to fill the chairs in these coleges." Thus does a Presbyterian who knows the situa- tion comment on the dearth of men of mark on the anti side. Toyal To Duty.
