28 ISH WHIG | === (INGTON TOWNS 1925 Composed of Men Who COUNCIL Have Had a Good Deal of Muni cipal Experience=--Past Year Lively One. The new council of the township Kingston, which will take over reins of office on January 1st, 1825, will be composed of five men REEVE C. J. GRAHAM who bave had considerable muni- cipal experience. The year drawing to a close has been a very strenuous one for the township officials. When the new council commenced its duties on January 1st last the members pledg- od themselves, if possible to reduce the tax rate, as the ratepayers claim- ed they were over-burdened with taxes. One of the first things the counell did was to order an audit of the books of the township, which re- sulted in it being found that theré was not only a shortage in the funds of the township but a large sum of money had accumulated which meant that the taxes could be great- ly reduced. The sum of about $25, 000 was to the credit of the town- ship, and at the meeting of the coun- cil when the tax 'rate was struck it was fouhd possible to reduce the rate by eleven mills. It is also stat. ed that the rate for next year will | likely be the same. During the year there have been some very lively meetings of the council at which officials were "fir- ed'* and others engaged, but never- theless it is safe to say that on no occasion did any of the representa- tives forget they were working in COUNCILLOR A.
