Johnston was born at Kingston, Ont., on Dec. 7th, 1879 the som of the late Capt. He received his pri- mary education at Kingston, and was for a short time in the employ of the Merchants Bank at Chatham, Ont. Coming to Montreal he studied in Arts at McGill, and then passed into the ranks of newspaper work, serving in turn on the staffs of the | Montreal Star, the 'Montreal Dally Mail and the Montreal Herald.
