The annual meeting of the Bat- tersea Women's Missionary Society wad held in the Methodist church on Friday evening, April 17th. Owing to a great dedl of {illness in the community, a gumber of members were absent. The meeting was pre- sided over by Rev. Mr. Carleton, and the election of officers took place. The officers for the ensuing year are as follows: President, Mrs. Karl Van Luven; vice-president, Mrs. J. K. Carleton; recording secretary, Miss Bernice Sutherland; corres- ponding secretary, Miss Alice Ja- mieson; treasurer, Miss E. Anglin; strangers' secretary, Mrs. T. Hogan; organist, Mrs. C. D. Lake. Favorable reports of the business of the past year were received, and the members are fooking forward eagerly to the convention to be held in Kingston next month. They are glad to know that Mrs. H. Dercette, who underwent a serious operation in Kingston General Hospital is re- covering. Sunbury. The Sunbury branch of the Wo- men's Institute held their April meeting at the home of Mrs. Charles Stoness on Thursday evening last. There were twenty-five members and a large number of visitors present after the usual opening exercises '| the business was dispensed with, by a uganimous vote {it was decided that no more flowers or fruit were to be sent to members during sick- ness unless they were required to go to the hospital or in case of death. The president reported the pur- chase of towels, dishpan and boiler for the hall kitchen! China salad '| bowls were presented to three mem- bers who are moving away from Sunbury and letters of thanks were read from these members, a letter of thanks was also read from the secretary of the Sick Children's Hos- pital thanking the branch for their donation. Miss Maunder gave an excellent paper on Institute Work, which was much enjoyed by every- one. An interesting part of the evening was when Mr. and Mrs. Stoness had their twin baby girls christened at conclusion of the meet- ing. Their christening dresses were presented to them by the institute. Mrs. Stoness thanked the Institute for the gifts. Dainty refreshments were served at the conclusion. The next meeting is to be held at Mrs. Wilfrid Coopper's, the third Thurs- day in May. WAGARVILLE LADIES' AID. Stage "a Performance and Realize Sum of $49.20. The Ladies' Aid of Wagarville staged a very pleasing and interest- ing performance beforesg full house on Wednesday evening, April 29th. The fish pond proved the first at- traction for the wee tdts, and a brisk business was kept up with the hook | and line. Promptly at 8 o'clock an hour's programme was given by ten little girls. The numbers which were all musical ones were put on by the following: Misses -- Myrtle Connell, Edith Hare, Pauline Smith, Hazel Hearns, Pearl Hearns, Doris Jackson, Edith Jackson, Isa- bella Cronk, Della Cronk and. Reta Hare. Special mention might be made of the sifter drill given by eight smart little maids robed in white aprons and caps and handling their sifters in an efficient manner. Following this came a contest in reciting and singing from children of surrounding districts. Names were entered from McLean, Tich- borne, Parham and Wagarville, and each one acquitted himself or her- self In a very creditable manner, Mrs. W. D. Black, Parham, Mrs. T. H. Swerbrick, Tichborne; Mr. Wen- dell, Smith, Long Lake: and Rev. H. Moyes, Parham, acted as judges and after much discussion the fol- lowing awarde were made: Class }---Reading, nine years and under; first prize, Clifford Smith; second, Della Cronk; third, Norman Cronk. The wonder trip of the coming summer will be conducted by Dean Laird of Macdonald College, to Vic- toria, B.C., and back. Inspired by the success of the trip | to Victoria last year on the occasion | of the Teachers Federation meeting | at that point, and filled with pat-| riotic motives for everyome to see their own country, the Dean has ar- ranged for a special train of stand- ard sleeping cars to leave Toronto on July 20th, visiting Porth Arthur, Fort William, Winnipeg, Regina, Moos Jaw, Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, Vancouver, thence steamer to Victoria. Returning, the trip will be via the Okanagan Valley, Nelson, the Koot- enay Lakes, Windermere Bungalow Camp, from which place the party will be motored to Banff, 104 miles over the newly 'completed Banff- Windermere Highway, the most charming, and awe inspiring trip it is possible to conceive, with stops at Radium Hot Springs, Vermilion River, and Storm Mountain Bunga low Camps--another day at Banff, then Edmonton, Saskatoon, Devil's Gap Bungalow Camp, near Kenora on the Lake of the Woods, steamer from Fort William, to Port Me- Nicoll, thence rail to Toronto, where the trip will terminate on August 10th. Everything is included at th price of $325.00 from Toronto; transportation, sleeping cars, ac- commodatioon in hotels and bunga- low camps, meals in diners, hotels, and on steamers, sightseeing tours at = points visited, and all gratuities, While appealing primarily to teachers, the tour is open to every- one desiring to go.
