Work Bishop's Mills, July 27.--An In-| teresting meeting, under the auspi- | ces of the Foreign Missionary Soci-| ety, was held in the United Chureh | on Wednesday evening, and Was | largely attended. Rev. Mr. Ander- | son, a returned missionary, who has | spent twenty-four years in Rutland, | Central India, and ig home on a fur- lough, was the speaker of the even- ing. He gave a most interesting talk on some of his experiences im | India, and told how the natives wor- ship their different idols, and the barriers they place in the way of the Christian work. Yet the result of the mission work is the furtherance of the gospel, and many earnest Christian believers are numbered among its converts, in that foreign land. The speaker emphasized the fact that it is neces- sary that our missionaries go to all lands and peoples, and everywhere the gospel of Christ proves itself the salvation of men., - At the beginning of the meeting thé ministration of baptism, to the infant daughter of Rev. and Mrs. McAvoy was performed by Rev. Mr. Anderson, and the name, Gloria Alice May Rose, given to their only daughter. Mrs. Millar of New Mexico, who is visiting here, sang | a solo very sweetly. The regular meeting of the Wo- men's Institute was held at the sum- mer home of Mrs. Joseph Keegan, "Fairview Cottage," on Tuesday af- ternoon. Mrs. Atkinson presided..| After singing the Institute carol, the | minutes of the last meeting were | read by the secretary, Mrs. L. Rob- | inson and adopted. The quegtion of | establishing a public library, in the | village, was discussed and further | inquiries will be made as to the | rules and regulations, and other re- | quirements. A humorous reading was contributed by Miss E. Powell. Before the meeting was closed three new members, and ohe renew- al were added to the list of mem- bers. The next meeting will be the grandmothers' meeting, and will be held at the home of Mrs. G. Atkin- son. Mr. and Mrs. T. Bellew, Wa- tertown, N.Y., Mrs. J. McGinley, Prescott, motored here on Thursday and were visitors at S.
