His assailant, William iwton, employed on the farm, form- erly of Uxbridge, Ont., is under ar- rest. : "According to the police, Lawton, who is only nineteen years of age, . Is 8 drug addict. Lawton is alleged "| to have seized the shot gun and fired two shots at Ellerington through a window pane from inside the house. He then tied himself with ropes, and had a gag in his mouth when the police found him. REller- ington was able to make his way to 8 neighboring house and called the _ police. Lawton will be arraigned on '8 charge of attempted murder to- morrow. = PREMIER'S PROGRAMME. ; Speaks " in Ottawa Saturday, Then Goes To North York. Ottawa, Oct. 22.--Premier King will spend Sunday in the capital af- ter a meeting in the auditorium Bere Saturday night, and on Monday will return to his own constituency of North York where he will address several meetings every day until 'Wednesday night, October 28. On Monday, October 26, the Prime Min- ister will speak at Mount Albert and Queensville in the afternoon, and Sutton at night; on Tuesday at King City, and Maple in the after- noon, and Thornhill in the evening, "on Wednesday, the day before the polling, at Schomberg in the after- noon and Holland Landing, Aurora and Newmarket at night. A BATTERY STOLEN. Oar Owners Do Not Take Sufficient Precautions. A battery was stolen from an 'automobile at Barrfefield on Wed- nesday night. This is \ the first case of its kind th has been brought to the attention of the ~ provincial police. In most cases, the police claim, owners do not take sufficient precautions to protect | thelr cars.
