The result was that the committee had to look for some other place where they could put the apparatus to keep it from freezing. The council further agreed to pay the rent, the commit- tee to provide the fuel for heating.' The funds were exhausteed with the exception of some subscriptions which are still unpaid (much to the shame of the subscribers default- ing). The apparatus at the present tme is still in the shed, uncharged, and nothing ready in case, it should be needed. To prepare it for use it would take twenty minutes or more. The committee realizing the seri- of the situation, decided to put on an entertainment in order to get money to piace this machine in readiness and keep it from freezing. Accordingly they arranged with some of Kingston's best talent to put on this entertainment and on the 20th uit. they held forth in the town hall, Lansdqwne, for the small fee of forty-seven cents plus three cents war tax. Hven though the show was well and thoroughly ad- yvertised, the people falled to re- spond, less than one hundred being present, and seventy-five per cent. of these were from the country} with the result that instead of mak- ing money they incurred debt. . Remarks were heard afterwards that fifty cents admission was too much. Others sald that the council shotild handle the matter.
