George Brown, aged fourteen, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Brown, was re- cently awarded a $10 gold piece by the committee on first aid award of the junior first aM legion sponsored by Bauer & Black, Chicago. While fishing for bullheads in a marsh near: Wellesley Island with Joe Scott, George was afforded an opportunity to apply his first aid knowledge which he had learned in the Boy Scouts. Joe had become entangled with a hook that éntered and cut an artery. Since they, were nearly three miles from home and in a skiff it was necessary to do something at once to stop the flow of blood. Remembering his frain- ing George made a tourniquet and applied it over the artery until the blood ceased to flow. - Securing ft he rowed home where the injury was attended by Dr. L. L. Samson of this village. George reported the incident to the first aid legion with a statement from the doctor and He was entered in the list of contestants for an award.
