FRONTENAC REGINENT DEFEATED NOMADS The Nomads, of Brockville, met the Frontenac "Regiment at the Cricket Field in a fast and exciting softball game Wednesday evening, the Kingston soldiers winning by the score of 16-11. The soldiers were entirely too fast for the visitors, al- though both teams showed good play- ing all through. The Nomads are a rather young team and have some good stuff in them, but they cannot come up to the class of the soldlars yet. They were ahead of the King ston team twice, but could not stand up against the heavy onslaught of batting, and their errors lost the game for them. . . Stagg, of the Regiment knocked a homer in the fourth, which helped | Sreatly in winning the game. It was OF | hell, If; in this inning that the soldiars got five runs, practically grabbing the game at once. The teams: ef; Watchorn, Major, 1b; Myers, 2b: Levia, p; Todd, ss. WILEY WRITES LETTER O COUNTY LEAGUE Expresses Surprise That No Effort Was Made to Af- filiate With the 0.B.A.A. The president of the Frontenac County Baseball League will be ask- ed to call a meeting of the executive of that body, for the purpose of con- sidering several very important mat- ters. It is expected that the chief item of business will be to find out what is to become of the League, and why it was that the League was not affiliated with the O.B.A.A. Inverary seniors were the winners of the senior league and Cataraqui Juniors finished on top of their grouping. As far as can be learned, when the league was first organized for the year the idea was that when the winners in each series were de- clared, they would 80 on and com- plete in the semi-finals of O.B.AA., | and the other teams would continue to play. When the winners were decided upon, it was naturally expected that the seniors and Juniors would go ints the O.B.A.A. geries, but to the sur- prise of all, it was found that the Frontenac League was not affiliated with the 0.B.A.A., for the reason that some person had neglected to make application. Upon being unable to get satisfac tory information from the officials of the league, Harold E. Simpson manager of the Cataraqui Juniors wrote A. J. Walsh, Toronto, secre. tary of the O.B.A.A., to see if i* would be impossible for the Fronta- nac County League {0 be recognized by that body. The matter was dealt with by the executive, but no action could be taken at such a late date Mr. Simpson, also wrote W. Wiley Ottawa, a member of the executive who 1s in charge of the eastern part of the province, to try and get some information concerning the Fronte- nac County League's application. In reply to Mr. Simpson. under the date of August 16th. Mr, Wiley wrote tha following letter: 185 Second Avenue, Ottawa, Aug. 16th, 1926. Harold E. Simpson, Esq., Manager Cataraqui B.B.C., Cataraqni. Dear Sir,--On my arrival home from vacation, I find your kind let- ter awaiting me, and have carefully noted the contents. Let me say that I was in communication with your secretary, Mr. O'Neill, as far back as last May, and 1 have written him on numerous occasfofis, stressing the fact that he should make every effort to affiliate with the O0.B.A.A, and it came to m¥\as a great surprise when from your letter I learned that he had apparently made no effort to move in the direction indicated. It is most regrettable, as there is nothing that can be done at this late date, the draws having been made for .the semi-finals. It is hop- ed that you will benefit by this year's experience. Hoping that next year you will affiliate with the O.B.A.A. and play under organized ball. Thanking you for your letter I remain, ours very truly, --W. They will need to play even better softball than they did last night, if they are to be sure of winning against the Peterboro team Saturday. They know what they are up against, and if the players stand together and back each other up, there is | not much caance of them losing. | | for Ottawa, where they The Junior' city champions left this morning hope to defeat the Ottawa Juniors, gregation, and if they do not win from the Ottawa team, they will at least | give them a good run. The Vics are in great condition and are well worth watching. The girls too, are playing in Ottawa to-day. They meet the Ottawa | All-Star girls' softball team this afternoon, and the Treasures are out to win. We're betting on. our girls. The Trunks and the Petes are to play here Friday night, to decide who | Is to meet Kingston in the finals in the C. 0. B. L.. This is going to be some game, with the all important play-off at stake. "Shiner" Johnson, skipper | for the Petes, was strongly opposed to playing here, probably because he! is known too well in Kingston. | No matter who wins out now. both Belleville and Peterboro have boon) having plenty of practice with all these piay-offs and sudden death ames, while Kingston has been sitting at the sina loafing. Joe Daley's Ponies had ! better watch their step. Both the outside teams have some "hot stuff," and | they are ott for the C, 0. B. L. pennant. Writing in the Toronto Star Lou Marsh says: "Local swimmers are greatly interested ip the discussion of Gertrude Ederle's channel swim, | Miss Ederle appeared here two years ago under the auspices of the Queen City Swimming Club, and the experts had a chance to view her style and 2lso to find out where she gets her speed. Miss Ederle has shoulders like a When she was here she swam 100 yards man and is a very powerful girl. {ree style in 1.04, a new world's record at that time for women. #iderle is a noted long distance swimmer. She has often done 3 mile under 46 minutes. There is only one swimmer in Canada to-day who can show better than that--George Young. The boys who swam the channel before Miss Ederle were all slow breast stroke swimmers depending on the tide to get them across, while Miss Ederle used the famous crawl stroke and it was often predicted that if Miss Ederle ever swam the channel she would lower all existing records by hours, which she did." Lee Meadows and Ray Kremer, Pittsburgh pitching stars, are having Miss | | 4 merry race for the Nationa! League leadership this season. The other day Meadows had a mark of 14 wins and four defeats while Kremer's was 11 victories and four whippings. Flint Rhem of the Cards was close be- hind, however, with 13 triumphs and five reverses. . Experts agree that the great difficulty in accomplishing the English Channel swim is catching the tides. The tides carry the swimmer some- thing like 60 miles in a W-shaped course. If he misses one he is done for-- until next time, Pat Duncans, former National Leaguer, is showing the way to the home run hitters in the American Association. Duncan, playing for tife Minneapolis Millers, banged out 20 dircuit smashes in the first 100 Bames. He is two ahead of Cullop of St. Paul. " » BA SEBAL I SCORES ---- National New York 2, Chicago 1.
