At Gospel Tabernacle. At the Gospel Tabernacle Sunday evening the gospel addresses were delivered by Messrs. A. McDonald and R. W. Hunter. Both gave very inspiring addresses, Mr. Hunter speaking on "Assurance," and Mr, McDonald spoke of the exceptional sacrifice of Abel. i Got Liguor From Tourist. "Where did you get your l{guor?" asked Magistrate Bradshaw of a young fellow who appeared in the Blue Monday morning session of the police court. "I got two drinks of Scotch whiskey from a tourist." was the reply. The usual fine of $10 and costs was imposed. Canon Ffrench IL. It will be heard with regret that Rev. Canon Ffrench, rector of Car- dinal, hag been unable to attend to his duties for some time owing to the condition of his health, caused by a serious breakdown. He will be unable to attend the consecration .of the bishop-elect on Tuesday. Finds Two Abandoned Cars. Traffic Officer Dowsley took two abandoned cars in charge on Sunday and had them put in local garages. The cars, a Maxwell touring car and a Ford touring car, were left on the Gananoque highway and it is not im- probable that they have been stolen. The officer is endeavoring to locate the owners. Lived in Kingston. A despatch from Buffalo, N.Y., has the following: Fred O. Murray, former collector of Cnstoms Jere, and a leader in Erie county Repub- lean politics for a quarter of a cen- tury, died Saturday. He was seventy-pne years old. = With 'his parents he came to Buffalo' when a child from Kingston, Ont. To Compete at Ottawa. Mr. A. W. Sirett, agricultural re- presentative for this county, left on Monday morning with a team of young farmers for the Ottawa Ex- hibition where the boys will com- pete in the stock-judging competi- tion. Paed, Westport, inspector of schools, has been appointed secretary for St. James United Church, Montreal. She is a niece of the late Rev. T. G. Williams, D.D., well known in the former Montreal Methodist Confter- ence. 1 A Golden Wedding Event. . Mr. and Mrs. Willlam George Cooper, 217 Marjorie street, St. James, Winnipeg, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Aug 12th. Mrs. Cooper was Sarah Camp- bell, born April 15th, 1858, in Sy- Mr. H. Thompson, and a sister of Mrs. James Hudgins. The body will be brought to Belleville for inter- ment. ---- Coats For Sea Cadets, The Kingston Sea Cadet Corps to- day received a supply of overcoats for the winter. Mr. Arthur Raven has for some time desired to have these coats for the boys, to make the appearance of the corps more uni- form for the winter parades, and he has at last received the coats from the headquarters. , Sentenced at Picton. Frank Godfrey and Frank Sarley, recently tried at Belleville and Trénton, appeared on Friday on the charge of breaking and entering into the post office at Wapooss. .Godlrey was sentenced to five vears in the penitentiary, to run consecu- tively with his punishment of five years in Trenton and Belleville. Frank Sarley was given one year, which, with the judgmen: of one year handed down to him at Belle- ville means that he will also have to go to the penitentiary. Last Week of Sale at James Reid's. Now Has Tenor Voice. Mr. Cyril Rice, who for several years had a continental reputation as a boy soprano and as soloist and choister of the Little-Church- Around-the-Corner, New York, sang during the offertory at matins in St. George's Cathedral on Sunday. His boy's voice has developed into a singularly sweet tenor and the tech- nique acquired by years of training is delightful. His solo was a simple hymn, "O Love That Will Not Let Me Go." He was accompanied by the organist, Mr. R. R. #. Harvey. In spite of the heavy rain a number of people belonging to other congrega- tions were present 0 'hear Cyril Rice, who has always been a favorite in Kingston. Dean Craig preached, speaking of the consecration which will take place on Tuesday in the {eathedral when Rev. Dr. Seager will be consecrated as . Bishop of On- tario. . OBITUARY | Walter D. Scott. The death occurred at the Hotel Dieu August 21st, of Walter D. Scott; aged seventy-five. The late Mr. Scott was formerly of Wolfe Is- land, but had lived for the past few years on Regent street, this city. where he grew garden produce for the local market. He was bereaved by his wife several years ago, ani is survived only by two nieces. The funeral is to be held from St. Mary's Cathedral to Wolte Island cemetery, Tuesday morning. Fad -- Leon Prive. The death occurred at his late re- sidence of Leon Prive, 355 Montreal street, on the morning of August 23rd. The late Mr. Prive was former- ly a member of the R.C.H.A. band. He is survived by his widow, one brother Aristide Prive of France. two sisters, Mde., Roussan and! Mde. de Ettre of France; Te? daughters, Mrs. J. Bosley and Mae n of Kingston; one daughter in France, Mde: Leontine Lous; two sons, Bdwszrd, in King ston, and Leon, in Montreal.
