How appropriate, indeed, and in keep- mg will fhe spirit of unity that moved the Fathers of Confederation, is the plan that sinks local prejudices in favour of assembling in Dryden, the central community, to worthily honour the birth of our Dominion by a combined celebration surpassing in splendour all previous celebrations in one united display that will mark the date in the memory of all who are privileged to take part i it. Si] bf ct Canada's nationhood from the bloody welter of a world war. And while our people accept their new responsibility in a spirit of lofty pride, there are little moments in our community life when we must pause to pay a melancholy tribute to the memory of those whose lives were offered on the altar of sacrifice, that the world might advance to greater freedom and righteousness. In this lofty spirit let our rejoicing in Canada's greatness be tempered with a thought for those to whose pioneer struggles our present security 1s due; that in our exaltation we may continue to follow their example in responding to the stern virtue of sacrifice when duty calls. So shall our acknowledgment of a splendid past form the basis for an equally glorious future. 1 SS Eo La TT a TT Te De Tea Mr a a Tr SS SS Seen = RRR RARE WHERE THERE IS NO VISION THE PEOPLE PERISH
