James THE DRYDEN OBSERVER ° | Ontario's Rulesfor Motor Drivers The Ontario Department of Highways has issued a set of rules for motor- drivers in an effort to cut down the number of accidents on roads and streets. The suggestions are as fol- lows: 1. Get your Motor Vehicle Operator's License. { Have it whenever you drive a car If {you get into an accident, or are stopped {by a traffic officer or policeman, the ab- |sence of your operator's license in itself will be considered a breach of the {law and subject to a fine. 2. Have your car in perfect mechani- cal shape, Glaring Headlights--See that your {lights are of one of the types authoriz- ed by the department, and that your bulbs are in focus. Brakes--Get your {breaks tested frequently so that your {car will obey when you want it to { stop. | Steering Gear--No part of the car is |so vital, Take care against breakage by | frequent inspection. | Four-Wheen Break Signs--Put one on | the rear of your car if you have four- | heel brakes. 3. Don't "loaf" on Main Highways when traffic is heavy. |If you are just "out for an airing" go j where the traffic is light. County and | township roads are in good shape Slow | moving traffic is the cause of many ac- |cidents, because the motors behind {must pass. Don't be selfish with the {road by holding up traffic which has a | right to proceed at a reasonable speed. {4. In passing trafic--Be careful. { When you overtake and pass another | car, see that the road ahead is clear. Be sure there is a place in the traffic line {which you can reach before you meet ia vehicle coming the other way Keep [to your right on curves: Don't try to | pass near the top of a hill, There may |be a vehicle approaching which you cannot see. Always indicate what you intend the hom or signal with 5. When other cars try to pass you --Let them pass second the and Look. Dont try to cut info trafic Wait] a mmule and it will pass. 7. All canning factory peach containers should be thoroughly sterilized before {they are returned to the fruit growers. This may be done by passing the con- tainers slowly through a steam box cn rollers subjecting them to the steam for several minutes, or by placing {them in retorts and subjecting them to steam under high pressure for five minutes, Unless this is done there is good reason to fear that the insect will be disseminated throughout the | peach growing districts. This is the considered opinion of Mr L. H. New- man, the Dominian Cerealist as ex- pressed in his new bulletin on "Garnet Wheat." The chief point in which Garnet may be open to a little eriticism is in the color of the flour which is ly more yellow or creamy than The unbleached hen freshly milled may be described as light yellow or creamy yellow, while that of Marquis may be described as creamy white, Since, however, bleaching and matur- veloped and are becoming generally practised, the objection to the color of Garnet, if it is an objection, would ap- pear to be appreciably minimized. Garnet seems to be about the equal of Marquis in weight per measuerd bushel, and where the supply of moist- ure is ample it may even excel the older wheat. The two wheats are about equal in flour yield, but the ash! content of Garnet is generally appreci- ably higher than that of Marquis. Garnet flour generally produces a little higher bread yield and a loaf if slight- ly greater-volume than Marquis, Tn texture of crumb Garnet is almost equal to Marquis, and superior to Early Red Fife, Early Triumph and Kitchener. Good texture combined with high volume is commonly regard- | ed as an indication of high baking: strength, ; McCORMICK--DEERING Binders 6 FEET, RE ---- The McCormick Deering Grain Binder is not the product of a single day's work, or of a month or even a year or It is the natural outgrowth of almost va century's experience _. building harvesting machinery. _ ten years. me .® . .
