FRIDAY EL! } J SELECTED COMEDY 'Matinee Saturday At 3 pm. - A strong movement is developing among the farmers of this district in favor of a telephone system. The extraordinary apathy of people in the town towards this great utility is becoming a serious matter. Dryden by its situation is the logical business and social centre of this district, and must aspire to be the capital of an ever- growing community; but mere accident of location will not suf- fice to retain its position as leader if patent obligations to the district are wilfully ignored. A great city can never be created by a people of narrow views and small-town traditions. . They must grow er thé town will stagnate. Recent events point a warning that the centre of gravity in polit- ical and social matters may: swing from the town to the .country. Such organizations as the U.F.O. prove to all who are not mentally defective that the former can no longer be disposed of as a whisk- ered rube whose opinion is of no On the Wire > foremost industry in the economic life of the nation. Tired of the delays and evasions of the cities, taking effective hodl. willing to co-operate with the town, but denial of such co-opera- tion cannot stop them. The specific issue of a telephone system in this district can no lon- ger be evaded. The farmers are duced to look back. It is up to Dryden to get busy and take its share in establishing the system or this town may soon :be sur- rounded with an up-to-date means of communiccation; with Dryden not equipped to seure the advan- 'tages of connection with such an important factor of progress. . Grasp your opportunity, or it maypass forever. If a telephone exchange once be established out- slde the town it may never be possible to regain the prestige so account; the agricultural com- lost. Time and tide wait for no munity is at last recognized as the man or town. COUNCIL MEETING | The regular meeting of the Coun- cil of Dryden met on Tuesday last JA. R. Hutchison, Mayor, in the chair.
