On the 6th of February, repres- entatives from the various organi- zatons in town met to talk over the question of a war memorial. Two projects were brought for- ward, a Clubroom, and a Hospital. Owing to the fact that opinions were not unanimous, the public meeting was called on Feb. 22nd to obtain the view of the citizens. At the committee meeting the GWVA president stated that the veterans were solid for a hospital. and Sunday, some outside influ- ence got busy and at a very poor- cancelling the president's state- the vets." speaker at the Sunday evening meeting. This gave rise to a feelng in town that the vets. wished to set aside the excellent idea of a Cottage hospital in favor of a Club-room for themselves. To remedy this misapprehension a questionaire was sent to every membBer of the Dryden branch, asking which project they were in favor of, and the replies are over- whelmingly in favor of a Cottage Hospital. Last Sunday afternoon, at one of the best attended and most en- thusastic meetngs the: vets. have held, the whole matter was threshed out, and the memos: business was put on a proper working basis. A committee of veterans was appointed to meet a committee of citizens, to first of all obtain complete information concerning the cost of building, equipping and supporting a small hospital that would meet the re- quirements of this district. If! after all data has beén gathered Jthe concensus of opinion is that the plan of erecting and maintain- ing a Cottage Hospital is feasible, the whole scheme will be placed before the public, and a canvass made for the necessary funds to erect the building; on the othe: hand, should an adverse decision be arrived at a new scheme of war memorial will be thought out. The personnel of'the committec is as follows: Nurse Laura Mor- ton, Messrs H. Willard, H. Wilde, A. J. Lock, H. Pateman, for.the 1vets.; Mrs D. Hutchison for the W. I.; Mrs Robt. Wilson for St. Luke's W. A.: Mrs Ira Wilde for the Unon Church IL. A.; Messrs A. R. Hutchison, J. B. Beveridge, S. Golden, A. Pitt, J. Hill, M. S. Campbell, Rev. R. Wilson, Dr and Mrs Dingwall. Already various letters have been sent out seeking information and it is hoped that some, data will be on hand to put before the committee when it meets Friday night. : I The GWVA still intend 'to'ne- gotiate for the purchase of the room in which they have met may have a place in which to hold their regular meetings. This however, 1s not and never was in- tended to be a war memorial, as ed in the original resolution in the minutes. If any of the citizens 'fare desirous of assisting the Vet- erans in the purchase of this pro- perty, donations will be gladly received by the secretary. RR li Se i SAT Mb. Please, A Jolly Good Fellow invited a number of citizens tc dinner on Tuesday last, to cele brate the opening of the new lunch room in Dryden. Owing partly to the prevalence of sick ness and partly to the shortness o! the notice, several unfortunately were unable to accept; but thosc who were present had good rea son to congratulate themselves, The menu and service were of an excellence that earned the en- comiums of a gathering highly competent to pass upon them, anc were equal to the best tables in the land. : \ Grape Fruit Salad.
