2, Sale of Flannelcite Blankets at 2.50 and Ready-to-Wear at - $1.00 each | DRYDEN, Ont. CITIZENS EXPRESS APPROVAL OF WORK OF COUNCIL. The culverts that are being con- structed under the. direction of the ' Roads and Bridges Committee of the Town Council, are attracting the ad- miring attention of citizens. After viewing oneof them, W. F. Kerney declared it was the first practical culvert he had seen built in Dryden. They are being constructed with a cement floor, the sides being built up with stone and lime, while great stone slabs re-inforced with concrete form the roofing--the whole being topped off with a layer of gravel deep enough to form a splendid sur- face for traffic. E. Tustain, foreman, and his crew are entitled to take a lot of pride in their work. J. McKay is busy grading the streets of Dryden these days. The dirt is being thrown up out of the ditches on to the middle of the road, where it is needed, and after being covered with gravel, will give citizens better highways than this town has --ever hefore boasted. A few impatient citizens are in- clined to grumble at the lumps in the roadway; but they should recognise that this year's Council are making up the arrears of roadwork of other years. It is impossible in one season to make an ideal road, but if a defi- nite appropriation. were made for : roadwork, to be spent over a term of | years, and so much done each year { to keep the streets in repair, Dryden should soon boast of highways that would be a credit to the Town. Because of demands made upon it : in dealing with the terrible after- math of disease and suffering which always follows war. : Because of the serious health con- ditions revealed by the war--more than half of our Canadian young manhood unfit for combatant mili- tary service. Because an international confer- ence of medical experts, realizing that voluntary organization was necessary as an aid to Governments in solving the world's health prob- lems, decided that "no other or- ganization is so well prepared to undertake these great responsibili- ties as the Red Cross," and that "no movement deserves more the hearty and enthusiastic support of all people than does this."
