Editor Dryden Observer, Dryden Dear Sir:--I have made some study of the Goat question and have kept some for over ten years, so flatter myself that I know something about Goats, but no doubt have lots to learn yet.f I have come to the conclusion that the District of Kenora is practically adapt- ed for Goats and that they will pay in the District of Kenora. It costs the farmer from $50 to $60 an acre to bring the virgin land under the plough, and I think if he hired it done, and paid 'current wages, it would cost nearer a hundred dollars, and he has to compete with land in the west that can be brought under the plough for $50 per acre. The Bureau of Animal Industry of the Department of Agriculture of Washington, appointed a committee to enquire into the Goat industry and among other things recent report, is that one hundred Goats will do as much work in clearing land on which there is a second growth as two men. I think itis is an admitted fact, that by killing the second growth the stumps will rot out in very much shorter time. Goats, I think, are as profitable as any other domestic animal, and as the milk sells for 25c. a quart for Infants and In- vilades. I think that it would not cost the farmer any more to produce than Cows milk, if he selects his stock or breed up to a high milking standard. Personally I am only in the Goat busi- farmer and citizen. , I am living in! town, and with small quarters, and my | official duties take up more energy ! than I have. If I was a young man and knew as much as I do now, I} would start a Goat Ranch in preference to joining the Civil Service. « Yours truly C. W. It is a great favorite in Eastern Canada, because its flexible gangs and light draft erables a farmer to do excellent field work, with limited horse power. It is light weight and draft, having no frame except a strong "back-bone" which holds the gangs together. One lever set directly in front of the driver changes the angle of both gangs wide scrapers keep the blades cleaned, even in sticky soil: Also OUT THROW, TANDEM & TRACTOR DISCS all SIZES You may be able to borrow your neighbour's drill if he is a good natured sort of a fellow, but every farmer needs a disc and a set of smoothing harrows all his own.
