Ottawa, Dec. 81.--The Ddminion command of the great war veterans association in a statement issued today : announces that at the next session of . parliament, the association will press for permanent incorporation of the pension bonus with pensions, appeals from all decisions pension commissioners to the federal appeal board, division of canteen funds on basis of royal commission recom- mendations, immediate improvement in conditions surrounding soldier settlers, pension to certain classes of widows who married soldiers after the appear- ance of fatal war disabilities aggrava- ted on service, and a nujnber of lesser points. THE - GLORY OF WAR, Germany First to See Its Fallacy. It is a strange paradox that Prussia, ten years ago the seat of militarism, should be the first country to fight war by making war less attractive in pub- lic school textbooks. The announce- ment that Prussia would no longer glorify war and warriors in its school books came in the same week that a prize-winning peace plan advanced war-purged textbooks as a means to world peace. Dr David Starr Jordan, chancellor emeritus, the winner of the $25,000 prize offered by Raphael Herman through the World federation of Edu- cational Associations for the best scheme for promoting international peace, proposed that children should be taught that the greatest achievements of nations are in science and art and intellectual development. It is his idea that too much space has been given to the glorification of wars, with the re- sult that children acquire the notion that fighting is the natural way in which to express patriotism, and that a country's most notable events occur on the battlefield. As the country in which militarism reached its highest development, and in which war was extolled more than in any other, it is fitting that Germany should lead the movement away from this. It encourages the belief that she has learned the lesson that war is bad business--a lesson that all must learn of the board of! CANADIANS RETURN FROM UNITED STATES. DURING YEAR. Ottawa, Dec. 31.-- Immigration to Canada from all sources for the first eleven months of the present year to- "talled 121,685, according to a Dept. of 'Immigration announcement. Of this number 56,925 were British, 15,587 from the United States, and 49,173 | from other countries. Total movement is 9,046 less than for the same period last year, but this difference is more than accounted for by the fact that the movement of 11,700 British harvesters in 1923 was not repeated in 1924. Thus 1924 really showed a slight increase in British immigration. Caradians who have returned from the United States in eight months for which records are now complete, total 34,152.
