Canada's future as a united confedera- 'tion from the Atlantic to the Pacific, united in spirit as well as constitution, ter of agriculture for the Dominion, at the banquet given in honour of Dr R. J. Manion, M. P., at Fort William last Thursday evening. : There is a vast territory adjacent to the great lakes capable of wonderful development, Dr Tolmie said. I know driven out into that country in years past and have seen the wonderful agri- cultural belts with soil and advantages all their own. . It should be the task of government bo settle up as much as possible these rich agricultural belts in the area that divides the east from the west. That would be the master stroke in welding the Dominion together. I am certain that in this vast area there are great resources of soil, pulp- wood, timber and minerals, that will make it one of the most valuable por- tions of Canada, he said. The air was full of rumours of the -general election, he said, but nothing definite had been decided as to date. Health Talks By Dr J. J. Neuralgia means rand neuralgia, for in the former case Then again, the trouble may be caused by an anaemic condition of the bluod. In fact, neuralgia is sometimes deserib- ed as "the call of the nerves for better bleod," 'and in many cases that is§ exactly what is wrong, but there may be other causes, such as a growth somewhere irritating a nerve or series of nerves, and we must not forget the well-known complaint usually deserib- | ed as sciatica. There may he many other causes than these for neuralgia, but I have just mentiomed these few example to show how difficult it is to tell a person who writes a letter from a distance, just what should be done for his complaint. The reason that a difficulty exists is that to cure any disease, one must first find out the cause of the disease, and this cannot very well be done without a thorough physical examination by a physician. To mention a few more underlying ] causes of neuralgia we include malaria j alcoholism, diabetes, lead poisoning, syphillis, gout, rheumatism or bright's | disease. It may be that the neuralgia expression of central disease--for instance, locomotor ataxia. It may be some local cause such as a diseased tooth or a diseased ovary. In neuritis the course of the inflamed nerve can be made out by tenderness on deep pressure. Massage and manipulation may be of use in some forms of neuralgia, and benefit may be derived from the use of salicylates, iodides and other neuralgic medecines.
