Ocean Rates Inquiry OTTAWA, May 23rd.--Outside the House the big feature of the past few weeks has investigation into the question of ocean freight rates by the Sepcial Committee appointed for that purpose and the chairman of which is Andrew R. Me- Maser (Bromo). It is expected that the work * of taking evidence will probably be completed at the end of next week, after which the Committee will have to go through a mass of nature. Then they will have to draft a report on the question of the propos- ed contract between the Federal Gov- ernment and Sir Wm. Peterson, by which the former proposes to get con- trol of ocean freight rates. Sir Wm. himself will be the witness next week and on what he testifies will in large part rest the nature of the report to he made by the Committee. There has been an abundance of evidence sub- stantiating the Government's charge that there is a combine on the North " Atlantic controlling ocean rates and , keeping them sc high as to injuri- ously affect Canadian trade and in- dustry. The question now to detre- mine whether or not the proposed subsidy scheme will adequately meet the situation. WANTED WANTED TO BUY--Small Cook- Stove and Dining-room Suite, Kitchen Chairs. Despite the cold weather, a fairly large crowd, from Dryden and Ox-" drift witnessed the game. Ted Ander- son pitched one of his Star Games-- 12 strike-outs. And also drove the 'iball over the fence for a home-run. The cold weather seems to appeal to the farmer boys.
