A. B. Hames, who spent the last two weeks or so in Dryden. The story of these eventful years, which have seen "the development of a great new nation to the strength of which its Churches have contributed richly, 1s written into the lives of those whose work as the days are going by lays the foundation of that we ; describe as the history of Canada. i Mr Hames began his ministry in theWesleyan Methodist Church 'in Canada in 1870. Having com- 'pleted his probation, he was or- ;dained 1m 1875, after which he volunteered for the work of the Church: in the Canadian North- iwest, his fist station being Prince Arthur's landing, now Port Ar- "thur. He remained in the west for twenty-three years, laboring suc- 'cessfully and consecutively on the tollowing fields: Prince Arthur's Landing, Fort Francis, Morris, Meadow Lea, High Bluff, Stone- ;wall, Emerson, Fort McLeod (Al- ,berta), Oaklake, Bradwardine and i Birtle. § For the first eight years the work "of the Methodist Church was in connection with and under the {supervision of the Toronto Confer- : Afterwards, in 1883, the Manitoba and Northwest Confer- sence was formed, which for many year embraced all the territory from Lake Superior to the Canad- ian Rocky Mountains. * { At the close of his pastorate in : Prairie Land, which was both pleasant and prosperous, owing to {a serious affliction in his family, he asked for transfer back to his home Conference in 1898. Here 'he continued to labour for twenty- fone years on various circuits 51 Within this period he spent twe &« vears in Cuba, "The Land of sun- | shine," to recuperate, where were formed three congregations, two 7 sunday schools were organized, » and two churches erected. The 51 climatic conditions of the country % were such as to restore health, 'adding years to his life and minis- tty. He superannuated in 1910, {after rendering forty-nine years of faithful and fruitful service for the Master and His Kingdom, and p [eventually retired to Aurora to spend his declining years. Wedding Anniversary. Rev. A. B. and Mrs Hames celebra- ted the fiftieth anniversary of their inarriage at their home on Yonge St. «outh, in Aurora, Ont., on Wednesday the 30th of last month. A large number {of friends in the town, from Toronto {and other places, called during the >; afterncon to convey their hearty con- gratulations to the happy couple. Mr and Mrs Hames were united in the sacred bonds of matrimony by the late illustrious Rev. William Briggs, D.D., on the 30th of June 1876. Mr Hames was born in the city of Bristol, Eng., October 12th, 1849: Mrs Hames is a native of Montreal, Que. Of their family of ten, they have now living four daughters and three sons, and 18 grand-children. The daughters are: -- Mrs A. Pitt, Dryden; Mrs (Rev.) F. W. Madden, Honeywood; Mrs F. E. Atkinson, Aurora, and Miss Alfreda, in Ontario. The sons are: William A. Wesley, Courteney, B. C.; Albert S., Gilenboro, Man.; and Dr Clarence, of Toronto. The names of two others are inscribed on Canada's Roll of Honour, Tidgar Reginald and Clifford Robinson Hames having given their lives in the great war. Three sons served with the forces. Mr and Mrs Hames are paying one more visit to the great west, being ac- companied as far as Dryden by their youngest grand-daughter, Mrs L. F. Charter of Springfield; Mass. The trip frem Aurora via Toronto, London and Sarnia by rail, and thence across the Lakes by the splendid stea- mer Huronian, with weather delicious- ly cool but superbly serene, to Port Arthur and by C.P.R. to Dryden, was most enjoyable. After spending a few delightful weeks here, Mr and Mrs Hames proceeded westward to see more Ire ones and friends formerly cher- ished. Innocents Abroad With no Wives to Guide Them Parisian nights, Fights, and tingling' delights; a rollicking farce of a wan- dering Bricegroom. That's happens to Matt More when he takes "Three Weeks in Paris," which will be shown at the Strand on Monday and Tuesday. Matt Moore and Dorothy Devore, one of filmdomes most popular teams, play the leading role. The story is by Gregory Rogers, which concerns the adventures of a wandering bridegroom in Paris in company with a jovial man-about- town devilishly ticklishly situations that finally thrust him into jail. Free at last he discovers that he is officially dead and in desperation he returns to his bride in the guise of a chef. Then his wite elopes with another. Oswald's fong-tried patience explodes the fabric of droll mystery in a delightful! unex- pected manner. The picture is full of good, clean comedy that everyone should enjoy.
