Delegates clerical and lay .were present from the distant parts of this wide juris- diction. Rev. R. Wilson and Mr R. H. Pronger represented the parish of Dryden. Interest is added to this meet- ing of the Synod from the fact that it is the last over which Bishop Lofthouse, the first Bishop of the Diocese, will preside. Le will retire at the end of the pre- sent year. In his charge, the Bishop gave a resume of the history of the dio- neighouring dioceses of Mononee -- 1in the east and Rupert's Land to the west, 18 years ago. At that time the work consisted entirely of Indian Missions, except the parish of Kenora. Today about half the work is among white set- tlers, the prosperous parish of St Luke's in Dryden being an index of the change which has come over th district in this compara- . tively short time.
