It was thought then thar be allowed to drop, a i! but would be taken up again. [1 generous | 18, perhaps, necessary to re-state oe p: Il a that a Rotary Club is formed out {of one member, representing each i business or profession, and orn) (1s a good deal of latitude in this 'respect, so that possibly, all told} in the town of Dryden ther (could be nearly forty classific Itions made. Further, it is felt that it is! not necessary to have this sized: club. As a matter of fact, clubs in towns a good deal larger then | this have started with between fifteen and twenty Ser There is an advantage in al Rotary Club, over Board ef" Trade, in the fact that its mem- bership attendance is morally' compulsory. It is not that Rotary does so much, itself, as that it' gives an opportunity for men to get together and in cool conver: sation without politics, religion, creed or any bias, further good movements. In short, Rotary should be a good thing = for Dryden, provided we can stand the expense of keeping it up. i A meeting is being called Thursday night, the 24th of Janu- ary, at 8.o'clock in the Town Hall. : i It is hoped that anyone really interested will be present. The Kenora Club is very anxious to sponser the movement in Dryden. Fort William is just as anxious. (queen will be sold. These will cost {ity cents and . besides will admit the holder free to the carni- val. All local businesses and insti tutions will submit a candidate This movement should be ad vantageous in linking Dryde.; with these two centers, as well as creating a spirit of town building. for queen of the carnival. So fa: the following have been suggested as possible candidates-- For the business men--Valeric Ray. The Pulp Mill--Gladys Ny- mark; The Bates Valve Bag Fact- ory--Olive Lewis; The High School--Minnie Reid; The Hos- pital--Ethel Wright; The C.P.R. Alice Berrey. Of course each candidate will be backed to the limit by the business she repre- sents an competition promises to be keen. Any othér public insti- tution business lodge or club wishing to enter a candidate in the running may do so the time 'limit being Monday, January 21. { Ater this time.no names will be received. The committee ask that votes be polled only for candi- dates chosen like the above, as it is too confusing to have votes cast for others than those sclec- ted by public approval. i Ballot boxes will be placed in 'the Dryden Pharmacy, the Star Pool Room and Gough's Con- { fectionary. These will be sealed *but will be opened every evening 'after five and the votes counted and the results will be given out on a bulletin board in front of the Observer office and at at the mill. In this way it will be possible to keep good tab on the progress of each candidate, and don't forget each ticket means one hundred votes for your choice besides the free admission to the carnival. When the queen has been elec: ted, suitably garbed in royal, splendor, she will lead the pro- cession at the rink and there be crowned Queen of the Carnival. A handsome necklace will be pre- sented to her when this ceremony takes place. More pretaining to this will be published in next week's issue and in the mean- time buy your tickets and watch for announcements on the bulletin boards.
