Howes," Minister. nomination CO-OPERATIVE NOTES Quite a lot could be said or written about 'co-operative savings, but the main points to he stressed are how they differ from capitalist profits and 'how they dre distributed. There are several other ways in which co- operative business differs from in: dividual business which will be point- ed out later in these notes. : When. the idea of returning, part of the purchase price to the customers was first suggested, about 90 years ago, most people ridiculed it and thought it was impossible to carry on a Musiness on that method. Ex- perience however has proved that it]. is; a principle of :a beneficient natural economic law and .it requires only a little serious contemplation for .a thinking person to realize. that it can be applied, with equal success to every. walk .of life. When people do realize this great truth they will re- move the causes of unequal exchange of commodities, and depressions will not occur. Some readers may think this an absurd and boastful prediction but they are referred to the C.W.S. of England where they will see the accomplished fact. There and all over the world the Co-operative Movement is growing and expanding taking in more industries, creating more employment, and paying higher wages to the workers, while individ- ual capitalists are doing just the opposite by cutting wages and /re- ducing staffs, adding to the numbers of unemployed, in their endeavours to make profits. All readers who would like to know more about the Movement are in- vited to apply to S. V. Rigbey, Sec.- Treas. of the Dryden Co-operative Organization Committee for further information and booklets on the sub- ject. A meeting of the Committee will be held in the Council Chamber, Town Hall, Dryden, on Thursday, November 9th, at 8 p.m. to which all interested are invited. If you can't make yourself happy, avoid a lot of things that make you unhappy. 17 3 | M. J. CROSIER Licensed Motor Taxi I Day and night calls given prompt attention. Dryden, Ont.
