Halbert, M.P., Speaks. A public meeting was held in the Town Hall, Tuesday, to hear the address of - R. 'H.. Halbert, M.P. for Ontario (north), ex- president of the U.F.O. Due to the inclem- zucy of the weather a disappoint- ingly smalal aaudience turned out, though several enthusiaastic citi- zens dropped in as the evening advanced. A. R. Ascough, Kenora, a director of the U.F.O., occupied the chaair and introduced the speaker. Representatives from Van Horne Club and the Dryden potato seed growers.were present, while Joe Tuckey headed a dele- gation from Oxdrift. Mr Halbert justified his reputa- tion as one of the most interesting U.F.O. Asked to discuss particu- larly the advantages of co-opera- tion, he explained that if they desired an exposition of how to divert the profits of somebody else to their pockets, he was a poor apostle indeed. His idea of co- oan was something bigger than that.® If the 6rganization aimed at anything it was to direct their aaims te'a If they confined their efforts to a purely cconomic purpose they were des- tined to faialure. The aiam of the U.F.O. was higher than that They must set aan idealistic purpose hefore the iv to seck the betterment of all. Any method adopted should be regard- ed as aa means to an end. An intention which threatened harm to own ultimate good. They should seelc conditions which were bene- ficial to all in the community ; co- Sec 3, 5,6, 7,8, Mrs Jno M'Donald operation was the spirit of work- ing together for the common goods. The probelm of fing rived more than getting the best price for their produce. It meant that whatever was secured by united effort should be devoted to mak- ing human lives better, more contented. Happiness for men and women was only attain- able by ministering to what was spiritual. R. H. Halbert is an unusual man. While practical and shrewd in ordinary affairs he has the gift of retouching the matters of every day with th cimagery of the ma- gician.
