Considering the shortness of the notice, quite a crowd were at the station Wednesday morning to wel- come the party, but due to No 3 being an hour late, many were regretfully obliged to miss the oppor- tunity to meet the Premier. The thoughtfulness of Miss Allen supplied numerous flags and decorations for ; the occasion, and with the vari. coloured dresses in evidence, the station presented an unusually gay | appearance. { Owing to the rather unfortunate | abence of Mayor Pitt, who was out of | Town, the reception was entirely in-| for some representative citizen to} meet the Premier, the various officials | and members of the Town Council | ward. Premier Drury, however, a sincere man himself, could not doubt! the genuininess of the welcome ex- pressed by the size whose interest he obviously shared with Mr Heenan, than whom no man is more warmly appreciated by the undemonstrative, but warm-hearted dwellers in these stern latitudes of Northern Ontario. - The Premier's Address In a short introduction, Mr Heenan characteristically assumed that the gathering were met to hear the Prem- ier, rather than himself, and as time was limited he abstained from any remarks beyond the formal intro- duction. Mr Drury, in opening his address, jocularly complained that the unconventional hour of the meeting could not protect him from the urgency of the: member for Kenora District. Mr Heenan not only took no rest himself, but would not allow any one else to indulge a desire for taking things easy. Early or late made no difference with his friend from-Kenora, who insisted on imm- ediate action whenever anything was to be done. ; Personally interested in Dryden. The Premier assured them that only the pressure of business had prevented him from prevously giving a long-existing desire to visit the Dryden District, as it also limited the time he could devote now to the trip. Apart from the advan- tage to one in his position of seeing the country at first hand, he had a sentimental interest in this country associated with his father, who as Minister of Agriculture in the old 4 hand were -j the government (Cheers). Mowatt government, . had travelled ovo this districe before any settlers lived hate, and who had helped to plan the op>ning up of the district in | those early days. Some day he hoped to be able to gecure 'the time necessary for a visit and spend a few days going over the old trail that his father had travelled. * : In the meantime he announced that Mr Bowman, minister of Lands and Forests, would be here for a few days as soon as arrangements now in completed, to represent The Hon. Harry Mills, Ft. William, minister - of Mines, Dr Stephenson M.P.P., accompanying the party were also introduced by Mr Heenan, but did net speak. At the signal that time was up the party again made to board the train. a A Pretty Incident At this point the Reeve of Van Horne called kis attention to two 6] which was attached a printed sou- little people who wished to see him.: Looking down from the car steps the normally wnsuggestive face of the Premier lightened with pleasure at the sight of two little girls, each carrying a bouquet of flowers for him. His natural kindliness caused him to decend at once vo the platform to receive the little gifts of flowers, to venir card, bearing the name of the donor. The two girls who shared this honour were Miss May Hutchison and Miss Dicky Evans. The pleasing simplicity of the incident and its re- ception by the prime minister of this great province stirred a, warmth of feeling in the onlookers more pro- formal, and when Mr Heenan asked : present were too diffident to step for-|, of the crowd,' TY ree = The engine bell sounded, and the all-too-brief incident was over as the train quickly gathered headway on the trip to Kenora, where the Prime Minister and his party intend to study the Water Control situation on the spot.
