He believed the parents should take up matters of this kind; if they did there would be less crime among the boys and youths of this country. "Conditions prevailing in small towns are responsible for a good deal of rowdyism," Judge Hannon stated. The Police Court has had a busy week, Two cases of breach of the O.T.A. last Saturday were assessed $500. Lucky Premo belied his name when he exposed himself to the high tariff of $300.00 and costs for selling liquor without a license. The same day Gordon Berwick subscribed the munificent sum £ $200.00 to the public revenue. Both fines were paid. Another unfortunate forgot to pro- cure a license before offering the overflow from his cow to the public. He was let down easily with a fine of $1.00 on promising to correct the omission. A number of boys who broke the Sabbath and the game-laws by shoot- ing fish on Sunday wer deprived of and costs, while most of the others were dismissed with a warning. An amateur Black Hand artist who attempted to extort money from a citizen by sending threatening letters was also brought before Magistrate Pronger by the provincial palice. His youth and previous unblemished re- cord were held strongly in his favor by the Magistrate. His Honour was inclined to view the matter in the light of a rather foolish prank, but at the same time recognised the menace of such pranks ever being successful. He therefore restricted the sentence to an indeterminate one of a minimum I am putting in a first- No Job too Large A Good Stock of Oils, Always OUR MOTTO: The Cus A. Silver celebrated the 26th anniversary since arriving in Dryden by buying himself a Chevrlet. He will now have full opportunity to spy out the land, in case he has missed any- thing during his sojourn. But Charlie admits that he likes this country, and will probably decide to settle here for good. Mr Silver was one of the first to come here from .the east. When the: Minister of Agriculture, Hon. John Dryden, was seeking for settlers to locate in the town named after him- self, he advised Charlie, the son of his old friend, to come west. Mr Smith i came from the Oshawa Valley, and has spent the intervening years help- ing to build up the country. After farming for a matter of 15 years, he took over the restaurant opposite the C.P.R. for a time; later his fame as a cook has spread beyond the ordinary limits. Now, with some leisure to enjoy life, he has taken the means provided by modern invention, and will give his attention to his new hobby for a while.
