Ladies' Baseball Ladies' Baseball was introduced to the public of Dryden on Friday even- ing when the Fly Catchers defeated the Pitt Nine. The novelty made a favourable impression upon the male critics, and already the suggestion is being aired that a picked nine pe selected from the two teams to rep- resent the Town as a Dryden Ladies' Baseball Team. Such a team would bring added fame to Dryden. The first inning saw the Pitt Nine take a one run lead. But in the secon, Miss Jessie Taylo? started a slugging bee for the Fly Catchers, that pushed eight runs over the pan. The Pitt Nine came back full of fight but Miss Myrtle Beddome was too much for them. That girl can play ball. She fielded her position cleanly, and her throwing to first from a sitting pos- ture was a thing to wonder at. Miss Daisy Beddome, behind the bat, was right on 'the job too. Her delicerale pegging gave Mrs Hambly, at first base, the time of her life, and Mrs Hambly can pick the throws out of the air. The Pitt Nine played the game with two players short but they covered the ground as best they could. At that their fielding was first rate, but the distance was too long for their throw- ing arms. On a modified diamond they would show to beutar advantage. In one 'department, however, they had it all over their cider opponents; they could run bases. Miss Nobie and Miss Mentieth wasted no time going around the sacks. As a result they made their hits count far more than did the leisurely Fly Catchers. In the last inning the Debutantes started up a batting rally that fell just tem runs short of overhauling their veteran sis- ters. If these two teams could get to- gether, Dryden could form 5 Ladies' Club that would make the Fair Sex of Keewatin, Kenora, and points east or west sit up and take notice. This might well be considered by those who put up the financial for the Meng' Team, : No 484 = AF &A M,GRC. hd ~~ Meets in the Masonic Hall, Dryden, the Second Tuesday of each month. EE TE : A letter from Miss Carr Harris, Public Health Nurse of this dis- trict under date of June 12th, in which Miss Harris tells of arriv- ing at Fort William in company' with a nurse sent out by the provincial Public Health depart- ment to work in the rural districts adjacent to Fort William. The letter also tells of two other nurses who are to follow shortly, one to be stationed at Rainy River and the other perhaps in Dryden disrict, that is if the residents of this section are sufficiently interested to desire it. i The Women's Institutes of the district will be acting in this matter, and every support should be accorded them that is within the power of the people. An opportunity to secure a visiting rural nurse is a veritable god-senc and one which should by no means be disregarded and now that the offer has been made, there is no doubt that there will go forth such a heartful response as will prove the whose service will be of inestim- able value in remote sections where the isolation of the inhabi- tants makes the call imperative. Brett, delegates to Toronto to nterview the premier and others regarding the control bill, returned home Sunday. Mr Hugh McKinnon, who was also a delegate, remained over for a couple of days. The delegates found that the prem- ier was determined to put through the bill, which, he contended, was advan- tageous to the district. The lgislation would be concurrent with Dominion legislation, as proposed last year, Mr The delegates next visited Ottawa and had a cordial interview with the Prime Minister, Hon. McKenzie King, who stated that it was his govern- ment's intention to revive entirely the bill put through last year, providing the Ontario government passed con- current legislation. He stated, also, that it was not the intention of the Dominion government to injure Onta- rio or the Kenora district in any way. It was pointed out to him that it was Toronto, June 5.-- Representatves for the province of Ontario in the international treaty negotiations be- tween Canada and the United States will be asked for by Premier Drury. according to promises made in the legislature this evening, during the contnuation of the address of Peter Heenan, labour member for Kenora, who vigorously opposed the Premier's Lake of the Woods control bll Mr Heenan resumed his address at ten o'clock.
