Miss Ruth Lampkin, Director ior the Ontario home branch Soldiers' Settlement Board, has been sojourning in Dryden for several days visiting the wives of Spldiers who have taken government: loans of which there are five at Oxdrift and four near Dryden. Last fall a profitable day course was given without visiting, but this summ- er the director has been hospitably received in the homes of the scldic's and the women folk have been made the grateful recipients of receipts, household hints and patterns to assist in home dressmaking. Mrs Ely Law of Winnipeg has been spending a few days visiting with Miss Lampkin, and appreciated very much the progress being made in Northern Ontario. She notes a won- derful change since the years when she was a pioneer in the same region. Miss Lampkin left Dryden Wednes- day for Kakabeka Falls, where she will hold a day course in cooking and sewing. There are some twenty-three soldier settlers in that vicinity who have loans with the government and Miss Lambkin anticipates a profitable and interesting course. Similar courses have recently been held at Barwick, Devlin, Emo, and Stratton in Rainy River district and the home branches were almost fully represented. Miss Lampkin reports that conditions in Kenora district, of which Dryden district is a part, are surpassing expectation from the point of progress, carefully kept homes, and a full realization of the ultimate results of revenue production through poultry raising, dairying and gardening and believes the promising conditions now prevailing will be a 'source of much encouragement to the soldier settlers and others who are making strenuous efforts io achicve success from these operations.
