He held what was known as "Ford Day." Everyone within many miles who drove a Ford car was asked to come to town that day and participate in the celebration. Prizes were offer- ed for the Ford carrying the most peo- ple (32 rode in on the winning car), * for the dirtiest Ford, the best decorat- ed Ford, for the Ford with the smallest license number; for the Ford driven of daughters in the carwith her, and ge like. Prices of merchandise were! ? offered by the local merchants. The owner of a small general store: ; stated that he did a bigger business ; ; that day than he did in any entire ! week since he opened the store, and obtained the names 3 prospects, all with a merchant of about $25. Spadina House, Spadina Crescent, Toronto, Ontario. 4 ® Rx Xx 3 Early last fall, fifteen employees were stricken with typhoid during the time : ¢ they were employed in a lumber camp $4 © up north, Two of these men entered claims for damages against the Com- pany. They contended that the water they had drunk at the camp while at work was the cause of the disease, and claimed half pay for the period dur- ing which they had been ill. They 78 got no compensation, however, as tge law in Quebec does not provide for this sort of thing. On the face of it, "there seems a real need for our sister _ province to take action to remedy mat- ters in this regard Where there is a larfe industrial * population, as is the case in Ontario, + many unfortunate accidents are bound to occur during working hours. Cir- cumstances govern cases, but claims can be made for compensation when y the injured person feels that he was Re- | § dress too, can be claimed in the case' who contract diseases' responsible for the accident. of persons : while employed in industry, and it is | a good law that makes provision for ; this in Ontario. Under the provisions of the work men's compensation Act in Quebec, . , It was also added by the Court that, Cit had not been proved that the! disease had been contracted at the ; lumber camp of the company as stated "but even if approved, the award could not be made. Industrial Health Supervision car- ried on among the mines, lumber com- ; panies, and large construction pro- i jects in Northern Ontario, has been { a remarkable success. Every lumber ' camp, mine and little saw-mill has a qualified physician as its sanitary supervisor, who also eares for the men medically. These doctors render splendid service in protecting the workers' health. Hach year sees a further reduction in the number of communicable disease reported. In- ded, most of the common infectious fevers so very prevalent ten years ago, have almost vanished. Such a record speaks very creditably for the effectiveness of the service, by a mother with the greatest number : and ' the local Ford Agent sold 23 Fords , of 80 live' you have not The Market ORDERLY WANTED--Apply to the DRYDEN RED CROSS HOSPITAL.
