Cubs Win the Scott Trophy The Cubs came home on Friday last with a bang, and before the Elks knew what had happened the score was 14-7 for the Cubs, in the opening game of the play-off the Walter Scott Trophy. The Cubs being in first-class shape, slugged their way through at the start getting seven nice runs off J. Beddoms who was relieved in the third by Milo Upton. But he was also hit freely all through the game. The Elk's big inning was the seventh, when they hit J. Miller, and with errors, made five nice runs for themselves. Miller and Foote were the batters for the Cubs and outside of the seventh played great ball. Foote's peg to 2nd was not in form. Willard on first did some great work, having only one error That being a five ball he missed. Dusty on second, after naving been hit on the head by a pitched ball, played well, under the handicap. Count on short came in for some nice work. Both he and Dusty making a nice double play in the fourth frame. Barney on third, backed some good ones, and hav- ing an excellent peg. Nadon, of th Tigers, played left field for Manager Dixon, who is away to Fort Frances by canoe, made some very nice catches. Clempson back from his holiday trip played star ball in centre field, and pulling down some nice ones. Payne in right field did good work in backing up first and second in pinches. Beddome started on the mound for the Elks, but having a sore arm, and also being hit freely, was velieved by Upton, who got in great work. Scotty Foote behind the bat also did fairly well, but had trouble holding on to the ball. Porter on first performed in his star fashion. Whiting on second was away "off colour", but came in for some fine work. Williams on short was "off" very bad, but also did grea' work in the pinches. Beddome on third when not the box also showed up well. Davidson in left field pulled down some finecatches. Swan- -son- of the Tigers played centre field replacing Morton, who was absent. Nymark in right field doing well. Batting for the Elks:-- Porter, Nymark for in For the Cubs:-- Foote, Nadon, Wil. lard, Warren, Barney and Payne Umpires:--Hake and Hambly Slugging Elks--Monday's Game-- The Slugging Elks came back after feated the Cubs 8-7. The game was one of the finest seen in Dryden this year. Both teams were at their best. The brand of ball they put up would make a big league manager look on with envy. No doubt some day a few of them will be doing just that. The game was the Cubs up until the eighth, when the score stood 7-4. An error by Count on short filled the bases. Porter's single bringing in two; Whiting's double making two ' more runs, and things finished in their favour 8-7. This was the greatest game played, and was well attended. Making one game each for the Scott Trophy. Upton and Foote were batters, and after the sixtn inning, came right down to earth, some errors enabling the Cubs to secure many of their runs, Porter was a "shining star" on first; Whit- ing was off his usual form; Art on short, was not himself; Jim Beddome on third also starred, making some of best running catches ever seen. Nymark, Hamilton, Swanson and R. Davidson, doing the fielding. Hamil ton making one of the greatest catches of the night. Miller and T. Foote batters Cubs, playing nice ball. Only for two hits in the eighth, had things their 'own way. Willard on first was right | on; Dusty on second did fine, with few errors; Count on short played a star game, only for the one play, when after getting Beddom's grounder, held the ball and filled the bases; Barney was great on third. : Nadon, playing for Dickson, who is still absent, did nice work; Clempson ; was right on the job, and has as good a catch to his credit as Hamilton ; Pavne was right on his toes in right field, but added one bad error to his account. Slugging for the Elks were--DPorter, g Peddome, Swanson, and Hamilton. | For the Cubs--Willard, Foote, Dusty.' Nadon and Evans, rtm for the Davidson, Swanson and Beddome, SAAR Ame wR mR A in the final game of a three series on ' Wednesday night by 6-1. It was a real hard-fought battle. The Cubs' fighting Manager, Dickson, just back from his trip, was in great form J on left field and while at bat. Joe Miller pitched wonderful ball and re- ceived good support. Clempson starred in the field with Dickson and C. Sfred- do with Willard in the infield. Porter, the Elks' Slugging Manager did his best, but things were on the wrong string for him. Nymark and Davidson in the field were stars. Bed- dome and Whiting in the infield were the same. : : : Upton, with Scotty Foote behind the | bat were the battery, doing nice work, but was pushed for some nasty hits and his team mates failed te bring them back for him. Porter was not up te his old style, but shone at bat. The J wind robbed him of some nice home runs over the left field fence. Dick- son looked after his other hits, Whit- ing played nice ball en second, but was injured in the eighth and had to leave with a badly sprained knee. Being re- placed by Nymark, who also did good work. Williams on short, played very j nicely, having several errors. J. Bed- dome on third, played a star game, pul- | ling some very nice catches. Pitt was not himself in the field or at bat. Ny-] mark played right when not on second. ! Davidson played his best game this year, having a perfect "peg" from centre to home plate, catching his man. } Miller pitched star ball all through being hit sometimes, but received good support from T. Foote who was behind the bat. Willard was a star on first. Dusty was right "on" at second. Count was above "par" doing every thing right. Barney on third was alse in great form. Dickson, Clempson, and Payne in the field were away up in form. Umpires--Hambly and Adair. ® * * * *® ke STITT sn SAAT oi vick Sale Prices. MOSQUITO NETTING.
