Hon. G. HH. Boivin, Minister of Customs, objected to the reading of the report on the ground that it had not been pluced kefore the country and "persons accused directly or inferential- ly had mot keen given an opportunity to refute the accusations. k The report states that evidence gathered by Inspector Duncan, shows that Hon. Jacques Bureau, ex-Minister "of Customs and Excise; R. R. Farrow," { Deputy Minister, and H. J. Larochelle, * a member of the civil service com- | mittee, received liquor that they knew | was being shipped from the Govern- : 'ment warehcuse in the Province of Quebec and that they contravened the temperance acts of Ontario and Quebec { R. These charges em- brace forgery, theft, forwarding false" returns, trafficking while in the Gov- 1 ernment service, shielding smugglers," "To my mind," says Inspector Dun- can, "only one inference can be - drawn, that Bissaillon was doing this business with knowledge of his superior officer. One witness who had purchased a large quantity of liquor from Bassoillon has stated that he had a turnover in two years of $1,500,000." Liquor samples taken by Customs > gauger in Montreal port have always ! been considered property of that of- : fieer, and the chief Inspector of the" port has shared them from time to, time. R. P. Clerk, Inspector of the | on oa Port, told the probe today that he was" wont to bottle such samples and send them to friends. He did this with a shipping permit from the Quebec' Liquor Committee. ~~ Some of his, friends he said shipped to were, Sen- ? ator Jacques Bureau, former Minister ; of Customs; R. R. There is nothing impossible about ithe story of Jonah and the Whale in {the opinion of Dr Arthur Brown, noted surgeon of Vancouver, who is attending the convention of the World's Christ- ian Fundamental Association, at Tor- onto. Dr Brown cited an actual incident of a whale having swallowed a man. The incident happened back in 1895. A British whaling vessel had harpeoned ¢a big sperm whale. In its dying struggles it upset one of the whaler's boats. Later one of the men could not be found and it was thought he had been drowned. It had taken one and a half days to cut up the whale, and when they reached the stomach the missing man was found huddled up inside. He was alive, but for two or three days was a raving manic.
