Worry Is Good For You By Sir Arbuthnot Lane Famous British Health Specialist Too many men and women be- gin to regard themselves as old, nowadays, when they should still be enjoying life to the full. They even give up sport and retire from their work, while others far older in terms of years are doing their best work. The usual excuse of those who back out of the struggle is that they "cannot stand the worry." In that brief sentence they ad- mit that they have never discov- ered the way to health and hap- piness. They are failures. In these times of severe com- petition in every walk of life cificiency counts before all else. And no one can expect to work well, or play hard, if every little difficulty appears in the forin of a new worry. The mishaps of little impor- tance should not cause a healthy person a second thought, and the gravest of troubles should occasion no more than a passing anxiety. It is a fact, however, that once your standard of health declines your resistance to the set-backs of life dimini- shes, too. Troubles, in a way, are neces- sary, and they will never cause any harm so long as they are taken in the stride. Life, like a clever picture, is a perfect blend of light and shade, one balancing the other. People who never know anxiety eventually die of boredom. Troubles are to be expected as a natural human inheritance, and it behoves us to meet them squarely. Then they will leave us unscathed, and we shall pass on finding life amazingly good. When a man tells his doctor that he cannot stand the worries of business or home life, he means that he has failed to keep his system clean and properly fed. His efficiency has become impaired. He should understand that a healthy person can «dis- miss care just as casily as the rich man dismisses his chautfeur. You know yourself that on some days everything seems to go wrong. You have a headache 'and cannot work. Then you find yourself exaggerating the im- portance of any little mistake. and wondering what is ter. You should ask yourselt your health. THERE IS NO . DRYDEN, ONT, : ler & 53 a CF ped Se WE 5 YOU the mat-|* how vou have been neglecting; . oe o When your heart is driving pad blood to your brain, you are incapable of thinking clearly, and all nervous troubles may he traced to this defective nutrition of the grey matter. The human body is simply mechanical in its functions. Compare it with a motor-car engine, and you may easily understand its principles. A neglected engine, poorly fed and badly lubricated, will never work well. The bearings will wear out quickly, and the life of the whole complex mechanism will he greatly shortened. That is the way with the body. You must feed it properly, and keep it clean, if you want it to function well. The road the motor-car travels is Life, with its ups and downs. The neglec- ted engine will experience diffi- culty on the smallest hills, and stop completely on a steep one. In the same way the unfit hu- man system can fail to cope with the "hills"--the setbacks and troubles which we term worrics. 1f you overcome those setbacks --and you will only do that easily if you are fit--there is no cause for real worry. Many men who would not dream of putting inferior oil in- to their motor engines cheer- fully put poor food into their stomachs. If you suffer with "nerves" and dread "worry," if you 'envy the fortunate people who dismiss their cares with a laugh, T ad- vise you to consider whether vour body is in good condition. It doesn't matter about anything else--look after your body and your mind will take care of it- self. . People who lead precarious lives, and perform dangerous jobs, are necessarily people. If they lost their health they would loose their nerve and usually they have the good sense to realize the fact. Your health will never break down under nervous strain;: for if you are healthy to begin with you will never be conscious of any undue strain, In fact; if vou are healthy, worry is good for you. That may seem an amazing statement, but you may think it out for yourself. A certain amount of anxiety healthy yourself unable to shake off that oloom, you must look for the cause in the right place. > x | Eat the right food and take serious effect upon you--Kree Press, Winnipeg.
