ETON - RUGBY By T. A. M. For the past two months, thé young people of Eton Rugby have been diligently practising the highly recom- 'mended play, "An Old Fashioned Mother," which they will present Thursday, June 22nd, in the Oxdrift Community Hall at 8 o'clock. This play, by Walter Ben Hare, is packed full of comedy as well as having a serious character which makes it so true to life. The story given in 3 acts is a dramatic parable of a mother's love. Those who have pre- viously seen the play term it an unusual favorite. You will - laugh and cry with the actors, but you will desire to see it again. On June 3rd a Sunday School Picnic was held at the school and quite a large number attended. Races were held for young and old, and even the fat ladies, of which there were several, showed up very fine. The Van Horne softball team played the Eton and Rugbyites and it was a good game in spite of the rain. Slim Berry was in great form in the teacher's garden, he sure likes young onions, and Umpire B. Whiting said, "not out, but if you do it again you will be." The score was Van Horne 11 Rugby 4. A very nice supper was arranged by the ladies and everybody ate to their full capacity. In the evening a picked game between the Married men and Single men was played and the Marrieds went down to defeat, the score being 20-10. EAGLE RIVER V -- Hazel Richardson¥®; Norval Findlay. By A. Mrs. Solberg, our President, gave an address of welcome, was replied to by Mrs. who thanked us for also Mr. then which McLennon, our welcome, and Stephenson, for the use of the Hall. We then had some Com- munity singing, at which we stood and relaxed for a few minutes. Further business was then taken up and disposed of. Mrs. H. Pronger rendered a delightful "solo, "lL.ove sends a little gift of roses." Then more business, (and incidently, more caterpillars). Mrs. MsCoombs gave a paper on "Home, and what it meant to us," especially the man of the house. We wished the men had been present to take in all that most of them (seemingly) do not appreciate in the home. The Misses H. and E. Anderson then favored us with a very pretty duet with guitar accom- paniment, "Silver Haired Daddy," (you see, we constantly remembered the men), and an encore 'Moonlight on the River Colorado." This closed the afternoon session and we ad- journed until 7.30. We were not idle during this inter- River members, thank the girls very much for this work, for by this we were all able to enjoy the day with- out any effort on our part, a kind- ness that we all very much appre- ciated. We opened our evening session with community singing, and then Mrs. Coppock was introduced as the Eagle River Institute's oldest member, for Mrs. Coppock was ~ Secretary- Treasurer, when there was a branch here, nearly thirty years ago. Mrs. Coppock was given a seat of honor beside the President. After more business we enjoyed the welcome break of a paper on "Old Times in the Institute," by Mrs. Hutchison of Dryden. Times surely have changed Mrs. Jack then gave a delightful solo "Come Sing to Me," and Mrs. Wigle gave two readings, one on the serious side, the other very humourous, all three of these items being thoroughly enjoyed. (Here is where the men come in). Mr. MacRae gave an ad- dress on fertilizers, which was of much interest to us all, as we all more or less dabble in gardens. He also had to tell a Scotch-English story, thinking to put one over on Mrs. McCoombs, (of whom he said he had tried hard to get the better EE ERE pt ee i ree THE ATHLETE BATHING SUIT You are sure to be well suited with a Leonard Life Buoy Athlete Bathing Suit. style with The popular one piece suntan backs----Black and popular beach colors -- Priced at $1.95 to $2:95.
