The June meeting of the Women's Institute was held at the home of Mrs. Ruete. After the usual routine, business of the day was dealt with and. all accounts presented and paid to date. Letters of appreciation from Mrs. McCoombs .and several other ladies who attended the District Annual were read by the Secretary. Also letters of thanks for aid from residents were read. Mrs. Dearlove demonstrated a tam which was very fetching, crocheted with crepe paper and could only be distinguished by close scrutiny from lacy straw. It was decided to cancel our July meet- ing and have the August meeting in the form of a picnic for the children, and to raise funds and arrange de- tails for same, later. Master Teddy Morton of Cairn- brogie is spending a holiday with his aunt, Mrs. George Ruete. LI On Wednesday evening, the Boy's Ball Team of Minnitaki held a very pleasant dance at the schoolhouse. Miss Nora Rand and Mr. Gross- berndt won the prize for the lucky number dance. #* * * The Annual Strawberry Tea, in aid of Holy Trinity Church, held at the home of Mrs. Ruete, was as usual, a distinct success. Many friends mo'or- from Dryden, Eagle River and Min- nitaki to enjoy the wild berries gath- ered by two of the Guild girls. The large tea room was tastefully decor- ated with summer blooms and Mrs. Ruete acted as hostess, while Mes- dames Howell, Lyle and Crigger pre- sided at the tea tables. Assisting also with other duties were the Misses Howell, F. Crigger, Isabel Anderson, Nora Rand and Alice Shapland. * * * The annual picnic of Pine Grove and Minnitaki schools was held on July 1st in the school grounds at Min- nitaki. Preparations had been made by the two Boards to raise funds to carry on in the usual style, the money- ed men of the district, v.e. the section men, responded royally, the farmers sending in butter and eggs to be credited to the picnic, also giving all necessary cream for ice cream. Billy Davis had quite a time hunting up freezers and must have travelled 200 miles. doing so, a lot of thanks is due him froin all youngsters. As we went up the evening before the picnic carrying the cream, we were busy inventing work that would prevent us stopping and turning the freezers, but when we found that this was being done by car power, we felt that the work was perhaps not. so important as we at first thought and stopped and sampled each batch as it came out, Mrs. Weare putting on a splendid lunch for the willing workers. The picnic was one of the most successful and a great time was had by all, evén the local pessimist was seen to smile several times and only once during the entire day was he heard to exclaim, "The times are bad but the worst is yet to come." A baseball game between Pine Grove and Minnitaki school boys re- sulted in a win for Pine Grove. Prizes to - both teams were then presented by Wallace Duncan.
