The Ideal Place to Stop for Refreshments when Motoring "MEETING AT OXDRIFT There was a very large meet ing of the Directors of the Agric- ultural society at the Commun'ty Hall, Oxdrift last Tuesday night. Practically everyone was present. - The purpose of the meeting was to allocate the special prizes, which are rather numerous this year, as the response of the Dry- den business men has been Bruce Collen, | tnanimous and generous. The special prize of the Presid- ent, was definitely settled as fol- lows: --There is to be, but one entry from each school section, but if any school sect'on does not desire to enter, than any individual may enter, but may only enter, by the official sanct tion of the school board. A letter of general guidance is being writ- ten to every school district. The items are, grains, grasses, roots, vegetables and flowers. Pati for the garden contests for particulars of which, see the welt i A. J. Lock, but which approximate last year are elig'ble to everyone in Dryden, and must be in by July First. The judging will be the last week in July, in August and in September. As last year the general aver- age will count. Mrs Pateman of Oxdritt, suc- ceeded in getting more attention paid to Women's Handicraft, & a special prize of $30.00 is devoted to items of special merit. This is being worked out, and the rules will appear in the prize list, which is expected to be out early in July. A very earnest discuss'on took place, relative to the comparative prizes for stock, and inanimate objects. In fact the directors split three or four ways, and 'even if anyone did want to speak at once, including the chairman himself, it only betokens the keen interest taken by the directors in the society, and does no harm. Some day we shall have adequate housing accomodation in Dryden. Then the stock men will feel more like bringing in entries, & the grounds will echo with 'the bellowing of bulls, lowing of cows, baaing of sheep and squeal- ing of swime. Chanticleer will crow to Aurora, and whoever 13 president of the society, and wha ever are directors, will be happy. In the meantime how would it be to all pull together, making the best of our somewhat meagre op portunities for the good name of the district. M DAVIDSON, m Decora- Sec nancial ire with s FIRE INSURANCE ~ ¢ SRNBURE WITH DRYDEN AND MANITOU * DISTRITS APPARENTLY NOT CONSIDERED 'Mr Robert Wachman writes that to his sorrow he notes that the Department of Mines, employ ing a large number of Geolog'sts, to | report on the Geology of the different mining fields in Ontario, for the purpose ot issu- ing new maps, does not include Dr ryder. 'This is rather too bad, as we are rather inclined to agree with Mr Wachman's statement, that a great deal more has been done to keep mining alive in this secton. for the past few years, than in many of the other fields. We cite Mr Wachman's own companies & the Contact Bay Mining Company and the present live activity of the Gold Rock Mines, Ltd, the Manitou We are sure that each of these concerns, would do all in it: pow- er to facilitate the work and com- fort of any party sent here. We think that steps should be taken to bring this oversight to the attention of the Department. 1m SHOWER For BRIDE-ELECT Miss Ethel Davidson, whose marriage to Mr Douglas McKay takes place Wednesday, has been the guest at several . delightful showers planned in her honor dur ing the lastiweek. = On Friday evening, the home of Miss Evelyn Spicer was the scene of a very en- joyable party in honor of the bride-elect, who was presented with two handsome pieces of sil- ver and a tray by her numerous girl friends who were present.
