Edward Bernard Coyle was born in Chicago, IL, the only child of Edward Bernard Coyle Sr. and Marguerite McAllister. He grew up on Chicago's South Side at 55th and Ashland, and attended St. Basil's Grammar School. He was a proud St. Leo Lion and enjoyed competitive high school athletics and being part of a team. Most of all, he loved to win. He was part of three South Side Sectional Catholic League basketball titles (47, 48, 49), two All City basketball championships (48 & 49), and was a Prep Bowl Runner-up (47). Ed continued with football at St. Louis University, transferred to John Carroll, and ultimately graduated from Loyola (Chicago) with a business degree. He was a lifelong supported of St. Leo High School on Sangamon Street in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood. He met the love of his life, Ruth Morrissey, at a neighborhood party singing songs around a piano. They sang together for 62 years, and had 8 children, 30 grandchildren and 15 great grand children. Ed was a ferocious salesman, coach and mentor. He joined Equitable Life Insurance and Casualty Company in 1954 and quickly became an agency manager. He ranked number one in national sales in 1968, and continued to be a member of the Million Dollar Round Table for succeeding years. He coached young boys in the Winnetka Junior High football program. He mentored countless men and women in recovering from addiction, teaching them that love and forgiveness is the only path to recovery. Ed was a successful entrepreneur who founded Coyle Financial, a money management business, in 1972. It continues to thrive today with 14 full-time employees. He was a lifelong learner who traveled around the world to find investment opportunities for his clients. He pursued spiritual truth zealously his entire life. Ed was a member of the Evanston Golf Club and Avondale Country Club in Palm Desert, CA. To the end, he never gave up his quest for the perfect golf swing. The California desert brought him great joy with its beauty, perpetual sunshine and ubiquitous golf resources. He loved sunshine, blue skies and mountains. Ed was always awed by God's creation. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Bernard Coyle Sr. and Marguerite McAllister Coyle. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and family at Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center in Glenview, IL. He was 84 years old. Visitation was Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Donnellan Family Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd, Skokie, IL 60077.
