Age 88; born in Crawfordsville IN to Irene Shanklin and Max Stanley Spears; spent early years in Evansville IN and teen years in St. Louis area; attended Clayton H.S., graduated from Stephens College in Columbia MO in 1942, studied at Tobe Coburn School for Fashion Careers in New York City; married on November 16, 1943; worked as assistant buyer in NYC department stores; designer of Junior fashions for Manistee Company and Smoler Bros.; 1948 moved to Knoxville TN, member of League of Women Voters; 1957 moved to Chicago's North Shore, bought Frank Lloyd Wright home in Glencoe, joined Infant Welfare Society and Glencoe Garden Club, member of Glencoe Union Church, scout leader, school volunteer; 1978 returned to Knoxville, elected to Knoxville Museum of Art Board; final move to Sarasota FL, first to Longboat Key and finally to The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch Retirement Community; preceded in death by her brother, Stan Spears
