Age 102; born in Elmo, Missouri to Byron Edwin and Blanche Fredreca (nee Bloomfield) Ward and grew up on a farm southwest of Elmo in Nodaway County; received a Life Certificate to teach after college in 1926, later earned a bachelor's degree from Northwest Missouri State U. in 1953 and master's degree from George Peabody College for Teachers in Nashville, Tennessee in 1955; her teaching career lasted 49 years teaching all grades but high school; married Glenn McClaren in 1924 and Bluford Heflin in 1976
