Age 83; resident of Glencoe IL and Palm Desert CA; died after 14-year battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis; born in Chicago and grew up in northern suburbs; contracted polio fall of 1st year, but graduated with class in 1948 from New Trier H.S., from U. of Missouri with degree in Journalism in 1952 and from U. of Chicago with MBA in 1959; first hired as writer in Sears catalogue division; joined small printing business, the Wessel Company which he owned and ran by 1966, formed The Wessel Group, a private equity investment firm and served as chairman, retired in mid 1980s; preceded in death by a granddaughter, Caitlin Bull
