College of Law; first African-American hired by American Bar Association and first African-American homeowner in Winnetka; parishioner of Sacred Heart Church; founded TWIG Day Camp, brought together Chicago's South Side children with North Shore children; worked with Open Communities as president of its board and continued as supporter of its programs; preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 1997
